early timing covers have a BOLT ON timing tab onto the pass side. the later covers have it cast into it on the drivers side. if you have no timing marks, you have an early timing cover with a late (70 and up) water pump. an early water pump is cast iron and dumps out on the drivers side.

I don't know what the heck I was talking about. The timing marks are on the timing cover not the water pump...I think I might need to slow down and get my brain sorted out... LOL

Thanks for clearing that up for me. That's what I had figured.
