how do you adjust a pinion snubber? when the car is a reat should the snubber be snug or shoudl there be a gap?
 
if u hav a lift like yur sig pic then u can try to adjust it with the car at ride hight or just jack one side of the car up an do it like i did!it should hav 3 holes like mine did

should the rubber bumper be touching the body? what's the third hole you refer to? I am loking at buying one on ebay that only has 2 bolt holes. Would that be the wrong one. The one I took off my 7.25 rear only had 2 bolt holes but it is too small to fit my 8.75 that's going in.
 
IF remember correct they hav three adjusting holes in them,i hav to find mine its in my room somewhere i lost it go figure,anywaysit shouldnt hit the body but close to it,ill look for it again tonight an get a pic of it for ya

If your car is being street driven you do not want the snubber near the body. The purpose of the adjustable snubber is to allow it to be kept away from the body in street trim and adjusted up very close when dragracing. How close is usually determined by how the car launches.

The purpose is similar to the slapper traction bars in that it keeps the axle from winding up during hard launches then un loading the rear end resulting wheel hop.
 
reguardless of the number of holes they adjust the same. For street use you DO NOT want it touching the body. It will limit the suspension travel and ride like it was on 2x4's . I keep an 1" to 1 1/2 " clearance between the snubber and the floorpan. Depending on your set up you will have to experiment to see what works best for you. If your car lauches hard you may want to re-inforce the contact point on the body with a small steel plate. With my slicks on I decrease it to about 1/2" clearance.

Yep It ain't no fun when the floor buckles and the pinion snubber rides up way to far and the rear u-joint blows apart, especially when you drop the clutch in third gear. :shock: Was an experience, and the driveshaft slip yoke never came out of the tranny. Yes I do have a driveshaft loop.
I now have a 1/4" steel plate on the floor where the snubber can beat away at it and never go to far.
 
I've heard of alot of people 60fting better with out the snubber all together.
 
Thats probably because of slamming it too soon . You have to give the suspension room to work
 
The snubber should be between 1/2-1" away from the floorpan..This should be set with 1/2 tank of fuel, and the driver (or similar weight) sitting in the driver's position, with the car oriented as it would be drivng..So, you jack it, it need all 4 wheels off the ground, with the stands on the suspension, not the frame. This should be done AFTER the pinion angle has been checked/corrected. Then you should not have to touch it at all. Factory snubbers hav no adjustment, and are usually too low to be of muhc good on a hard launch..This is because the factory had to think about if there were 4 adults in it, how would it ride..If it was sitting on the snubber, as mentionned, it would be like sitting on a board.

Adam, the snubber works in concert with factory leaf springs..There are people who dump them when SS springs or something similar are used. I always found running with it only helps traction, even with SS springs..But it's one more thing to adjust and try to understand, so a lot of guys dont bother. My car will leave poorly if I run only the springs.

Mike, your car's snubber should be just about on the floor..there was no driver present when that was set up..
 
Mopar, Maybe I'll pick up another one sometime but it will be the new type with the screw adj. Not the mopar one that doesnt fit my car even with new 002/003 springs.
 
When I was running a snubber I tested settings at the track one day. Tried preloading the snubber which was terrible,made the car bounce and kinda hop. Lowered to about 1/4 inch clearance, acted better. I had already shortened the snubber to fit the car so I cut the rubber part down so I had a little over an inch clearance. This worked the best in my car, 60 foot improved and it hit the tires harder with better consistency.
