73 340 motor worth

I think that price is good for a fresh engine. Machine work alone is worth that much - if it's done well. If it really hasn't been fired, hit the catalogs and find out what those cast pistons weigh. Or, just pull them, I think all 340's kept floating pins regardless of crank or year. Pop one and weigh it if you have to. Then, see what comes close, or just Do The Right Thing and have it properly balanced. Prof. Products makes an SFI balancer for cast crank 340's, so that's easy.

In the end, I'd be expecting more for my steel-crank 72 340 even though it's got a couple thousand miles on it now. No magic in a 340 - unless you want one...
