I'm installing a 6 pack scoop on a 72 swinger with factory hood.Does anyone have measurements or pictures ?

the back of the scoop on mine is 3.25" from the back of the hood

previous owner put it on, and there is some flexibility of where you want to put it

bump..Anybody else have specs of where they would place the scoop? I know I'll probably just do it where it looks best..but just wondering about measurements and pics as well

are you cutting a hole in the hood? theres no specific place to put it , its really up to you. if you are cutting a hole, do that first

Yes I will be cutting a hole in the hood I believe. I have been going back and fourth about whether or not to cut a hole. But I figure If I am going to have a hoodscoop, it needs to be functional! and I'm not worried about cutting into the hood. Because worst case, I have a spare stock steel hood that I can use...

XS2 here, if i have a hood scoop, i have a hole in the hood lol , definitely cut the hole first then play around with the scoop and decide where you like it , i tend to put them farther back on the hood.

Do you reinforce the hood after cutting it?
i dont, my holes arent big enough to get into the structures, only the sheet metal itself. i use a 9 inch air cleaner with a 4" tall filter with my six pack scoop and my dual snorkel A body scoop

On my 74 I just finished mounting a dual snorkel scoop on the hood and I cut out the center triangle sheetmetal.
Here is a pick of the hood on my duster (Only cut the back half of the triangle out) with no scoop or tach.

There's no real specification for a six pak scoop on an A-body, they never came with them from the factory.

I'd take a look at where you need the hole in order for it to be the most useful. I'd also look at the inner structure of the hood, cutting the skin is one thing, cutting the inner structure is something else. I'd try to leave the under hood reinforcements intact, or at least mostly intact to maintain the strength of the hood.

6 pack scoop on my Dart is 2-3/4" from the back of the hood. It's a US Bodysource 6PAK fiberglass hood. Like has been said, they never came from the factory on an A Body, so put it where it fits your needs.

Thanks for the replies everyone..And Once I get the motor in, I will have to check out where it would be optimal to make my hole then! I was assuming that I would have to cut into the reinforcement under the hood, and then re-reinforce it using my own fabricating...But that would be optimal if I didn't have to cut into the structure at all..

Does anybody have pics of what their hole looks like under the scoop(holes that people have made themselves)...even if its on a hemi scoop or something..just to have an idea..

this is a 73 duster hood. not the prettiest hole, i got in a hurry lol, and the motor sits about 1 1/2 inch to the passenger side, another reason to wait and measure for it. i also took some silicon and squeezed it between the hood and the brace to keep it rattle free. i have about 1" between the air cleaner lid and the scoop when the hood is closed, nothing like fresh air.
