Hi Michael, Are those AutoMeter gayges ? What series ?

Thanks.

John

they are autometer street rod series gauges. quad on the right, speedo on the left.

hope that helps

Michael

It would be nice if someone made one for 70 - 71 Darts like the redline cluster.

Did this with a RMD, wanted it to look close to the factory dash on my 68 cuda. Used VHT black wrinkle paint on the upper part, chamfered and polished the edges of the pod openings, used LEDs for indicators and warning lights, bottom stainless strip if from Australian Valiant (VE - 1967).

Very nice work, you guys. Well done. I will be doing something similar with my Barracuda. I will be enlarging the metal dash frame upward, then cover it with high density foam and vinyl. I will be building a dash panel from T6 aluminum and steel. I really like the Autometer Phantom II gauges and will be searching for a good deal. I did a search for automobile gauges on the Internet and there are places that sell sets for good prices.

Syndcuda,

Wow!! That looks great. Must have been a custom order with that guage setup. I still haven't gotten my A-11 polished yet, and i like the way yours looks! Definatly something to think about with that black wrinkle on the top and polished on the bottom. I had also though about polishing the top, painting the bottom black and putting a sublime stripe where the bend in the dash is to match the car, but haven't been thinking about that one too much lately. Beautiful car by the way!

Steve

Thanks Steve (Im steve also btw). Yeh there's so many options you could go with on the custom dash, I had to think long and hard about it myself. Originally had white face guages in it but decided the black faced gauges suited the theme of the car better (more nostalgic and muscular). I painted the bottom part btw after polishing (too shiny) and brushing the surface (came up ok but eventually decided paint looked better)

Syd, your pictures are backwards :toothy10:

(just kidding)

Hmm, this gives me lots of ideas for mine. I put a panel in on mine beneath the heater controls for some VDO gauges and a 1 DIN radio. It's screwed on right now, but when I get to the interior I think I'm going to weld it in.

I didn't even think about using a stock bucket with a new panel, but that looks good. I was originally going to keep mine, but I feel dorky using a stock cluster when the only thing in it that works is the fuel gauge (which isn't accurate) and the speedo. I could do a 6 gauge cluster, then use the other three for an eventual A/F gauge (when I go to EFI) and a trans temp gauge.

Love that panel Superdart, the subdued and blended approach you;ve taken looks like something Steve Strope of Purevision would put out (eg. the "Dustya" project). Personally I'd leave the screws in on the VDO gauge pod.

i can deal.the dash looks good.
more pics coming.when its in soon.

abodyhotrod,

did you polish that? you have the same guages as me, and i was going to polish it, then saw syndcuda's dash and had been thinking about painting the top half with black wrinkle. Its nice to compare and see what it would come out looking like.

Steve

no polishing, my powdercoater is gonna do a chrome finish i ask what he had close to a silver anodized finish.

sydcuda,

I have had my dash for about 2 months, i just haven't had time to get it polished and installed, i have time to work on the car now, but i got a few things to do first

Abodyhotrod,

So in the pictures that you posted you sanded it?

I started to polish mine and realized half an hour into it that i was supposed to sand it first (first experience with polishing)

nope havent touched it thats how it came from rmd. new pic's coming soon.

almost done. turned into quiet a little project. dash was powder coated some chrome color. i still need to pick up one more gauge probably trans temp.

Wow, your car must be fast..even the gauge cluster is doing 60mph...and it's just sitting there.

Looks good. Is that a B&M megashifter?

Yes it is a B&M mega shifter.

HINT!!!

Route the cable over the tranny to the right side and around the front.

Nice looking dashes....

I guess I'm a little late for the party, but wanted to know if you guys have any problems with hooking up the aftermarket speed o's?

With electric speedos it's just a matter of attaching a sending unit to the tranny. You can calibrate the Autometer ones regardless of differential ratio and tire size.

70Duster440,

Thanks for the quick reply! What kind of sending unit can I use?

Thanks again...and love your Duster!
