I am trying to remove my wiper motor on my 72 Duster. Before I proceed however, is there a correct way to do this so, I don't have to fix something that it not broken now. I see there is a 7/16 nut on the shaft which probably needs to be removed. Left hand or right turn..? Is there a way to hold the wiper levers from moving when trying to lossen that nut?
Too many questions and simply not enough experience :)
Any help ?

Yup, just take off the 7/16 nut on the linkage, pop the linkage off and 3 nuts in the engine bay.

The nut shouldnt be that tight and is regular thread, not left handed.

Thanks - Is there a secret to hold the wiper levers as they move when trying to lossen the nut?
And - I would imagine they then need to be in the correct position when re-installing. Wipers at rest on the windshield would be my guess.

The wiper motor is almost directly behind the radio. With the radio dropped a socket and long extension works great. Most cases the nut can be bumped loose. Otherwise you'll need to hold the pitman arm with adjustable wrench. Best plan in reassembly is remove the wiper blades. Get everything back together and run the motor to is park position before setting the blades position. I saw the wiper rip fresh paint off the hood of an AMC Hornet once.

Thanks, I did get the nut loose and motor is out. You're right - just quick snap and it came loose. However, needed to be a contorsionist to get under the dash as I did not take the radio out. To put back in, I will follow your suggestions.
Thanks again

a nut? i thought mine had some spring type of clip on the end of it that you needed a screw driver to pry it off with. That was 3 years ago though.
