slow at work ?

-
I have worked 8 days since last november when i got our normal seasonal layoff....and it is not looking to get any better anytime soon..... so i filed my papers to retire early, just in case....oh yea, I work as a union carpenter and certified welder, on bridges ,dams etc.
18 years in this union ,and never seen it this slow......

I work at a subi dealer and it has been slow, not dead but slow. It sucks we don't have internet because of some moron so I just kinda sit there and sometimes stock shelves.

I work on commission at my dealer. Its killing me. When I have nothing to do I cleam my truck. Its the cleanest truck in town.

I work on a casino and its the slowest its been ever. I might actually mork 2 full hours of an 8 hours shift.

Don't get me started..........I'm shutting down my 10 year old business cause we are dead. Insurance repairs to homes..........ins. checks made out to homeowners and the mortgage companies.........homeowners told to endorse the checks and send to the mortgage companies. Usually by the time we get done with the repairs a month later the check is back and we collect. About 3-4 months ago the mortgage companies quit returning the checks. Their dumping them in their general funds trying to stay afloat. I call and they tell me "your not on the mortgage, we can't talk to you about that". I could file a lien but they are the primary lien holder. My lawyer wants 5K to file a suit for each property. Those bastards owe me over 100K on completed jobs!!!
Laid all my people off.....selling my equipment and today met with Handyman Connection to go back into the "field" doing jobs myself.
Oh......did I mention I have turned all credit accounts over to MMI (debt management).

I did get my certification as an Independent Adjuster a couple of months ago so now I'm just waiting on a Cat 4 or greater to hit. I can make 120K - 140K per year on storm duty.

Sorry if it is cynical but I'm praying for devastation somewhere.
It's the only thing that will keep me from bankruptcy.

It irks me to no end when I here the federal reserve chairman state that the biggest problem with the economy is the housing mortgage problem !!!!! What a bunch of freaks ........ To blind to see the big problem is the fuel prices....... I don't see how some idiot who bought a $400,000 house with a variable rate interest affects me...... But I can tell you how the $140 worth of diesel I put in my truck affects me...... &&^%^&*8:angry7:

I'm actually working 3 jobs right now... 1 full time which I consider my "real" job, my consulting business and a long-term consulting gig with another company. And I'm busy with all three of them, working long hours during the day, then more hours when I get home. It's a wonder I've got time to visit FABO as often as I do.

It's slow all over I think. Sales at the feed store have gone down a bit. A lot of people are getting rid of there animals. Thay are having trubble paying on the house let alone feeding the animals. I hope it gets better soon. But it don't look good.

Its been quiet here at work as well. I work for the second largest airline in Canada, (Westjet) doing line maintenance in Winnipeg. To quote one of my co-workers, " If you see us working, we are not making money!!"
The only real thing I did for 5 days, is fix a hydraulic leak, on the A system autopilot actuator fittings. Other than that its fueling vehicles and cleaning the shop.
Sorry to hear about some of you guys getting laid off. It doesn't seem like its going to get better anytime soon.

I'm in construction, live in SC and it is very slow. We don't have but one job on the books coming up but it beats sitting at the house trying to pay bills. I talked to a friend of mine who does auto glass repair and he said they are down to about 50% work than the usual. It's bad.

I'm an engineer in the communications business out here in Northern California. For all the high gas prices and home foreclosure (we are leading the nation) we are very busy and have been since April. Tons of new public safety 911 radio systems being quoted and installed. I can't find enough qualified people that want to work!

Are they installing those new Motorola systems?

you guys are making me feel lucky.

there always has been and always will be a need for farmers, so my job is secure.

i run a service dept.for chevrolet/pontiac dealership. we are booked up through next wendsday already. has been like this for about a month. we have 8 service techs and could use 2 more.they are flagging about 96-106 hours in a 88 hr period. business has been good.
gas prices are down to $3.38 per gallon here..

I see the Pontiacs and Chevys are still crap lol

I am a manager at a Payday Advance store. We are down about 35 to 45% from last year and I am happy for that. It means my customer's are not having to use our services all the time and just every once in awhile. We are able to offer other services now besides just the payday loans, which have brought business up a bit. I was offered a few jobs in the last week that were considerably more then what I make now but also more hours and had the "been there done that" effect.

I work parts and luckaly its not commission, the techs don't seam to be hurting too badly though.

I'm a rural mail carrier. I think people are buying more stuff and having it shipped, cause we get a lot of packages. We pay for are own fuel and are reimbursed mileage we just got a 5 cent raise per mile but it's not enough, I spent $1600. on gas last month.

Ditto - I'm a part-time carrier (guaranteed 2 days a week). I've been working mostly 5 days a week and not all at the post office where I'm assigned

I fight natural selection (firefighter/paramedic). We are still busy and getting busier every day and every year. It's mostly crazy people and unruly people that the cops don't want to deal with.

It's a tossup in the pharmaceutical business. The only thing that really bothers me in the downtime, when I'm on a project site, is that it's harder to look busy when you're not than it is to actually be busy...hopefully this is the only slow day I'll see for awhile.

Im in England work in construction and its slow here, gas is about $11 a gallon so you guys are lucky paying 3 to 4 bucks my son lives in NC and works on golf courses but he's slowed up some to don't know when it will pick up again

Busy day at work today. I cleaned 2 cars, The other guy cleaned 2 cars. I took yesterday off to spend time with the kids. The guy I work with says same thing as all week. 2 cars sold between 10am and 8pm. He made around $2.50 an hour. I have to take friday off too. I have the feeling I wont be missing much.
