hi,

i bought a set of XV seatbelts (link: http://www.xvmotorsports.com/products/detail/index.cfm?nPID=113 )and i am putting them in the dart with some high back buckets i got last week.

the previous owner had installed some seats out of a newer car that looked horrible in there and were also just attached by drilling holes in the floor and bolting it down.

and the seatbelts were just drilled through and bolted down.

with the 3 point XV belts, they use the stock shoulder and lap belt mounting locations to the outside of the car. But on the inside, where the belt (receiver?) gets mounted, i'm not sure where its supposed to go. Does it attactch to the seat? I can't find anywere on the bottom of the tunnel that looks like it attached to the floor (no extra support structure).

i should have double checked last night when i was looking at a barracuda, but it slipped my mind

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,
Seat belts were not mandatory until the middle of the '69 MY run, your car could have come without em. Maybe somebody can provide picture. If you do have shoulder belt holes the tunnel holes would be on the same line in the curved part of the tunnel between the floor and tunnel. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong....
Kim.

thanks,

i found them, the underside of the car is pretty dirty. I pulled the carpet up there they were, seatbelts are in and now i gotta get the seats in.

yea, i'll post some pics up tonight when i get time, so far they look good. I haven't driven the car with them yet, but hopefully i will do that tonight too.

I've considered upgrading to shoulder belts several times. I've promised to give my red car to my grand daughter and surely will upgrade before she starts driving it.
My main concern with aftermarket belts is the quality of their buckles.
Even some factory OEM belt buckles were absolutely crap ! See Geo for reference LOL
These XVmotorsports belts are priced quite a bit higher than the brand normally seen on ebay. Quality and cost are usually related so we can expect these to be well designed and built. Time will tell. Good luck with them.

here are some pictures of them in, plus i got a better set of buckets in and put the consol on the shifter, so the interior looks the best it has since i have owned it. Now i just got to get the headliner in, the dash cap on, and the rockymountain dash in.

they seem to work pretty good. they lock up good. It seems like they lock up once or twice every time you try to put them on, a pain in the ***, but comforting knowing that they are working.

it was also good that i put these in because i didn't realize that the previous owner had put new lap belts in, but didn't mount them where they are supposed to go, and just drilled holes in the floor and bolted them with 3/8 bolts and washers. I probably would have been done for if something had happened.

If anyone's looking for vintage style belts, I found that www.seatbeltpros.com has a very good deal on lift-buckle type belts. I got a pair of 3-point shoulder/lap belts for $82 shipped. They aren't retractable, but personally, I'm not a fan of the retractors, for some reason they never seem to work right for me.

Thanks for the shots. They look great.
It looks like they won"t work for me. I have a bench and the seat belt attach is alot further forward on mine. No room at all on the side of the seat.
They will be perfect for my Runner tho.

you could take the belt out of the plastic piece that holds them stiff and run them through the seat like the origional lap belt. But if you get them for your runner, you could see how they would fit in your other car.

Front seat belts became mandatory during the '64 model year, shoulder belts came in sometime in '68. The mount for the receiver should be along the side of the transmission tunnel just behind the seats.

The retractor is an inertia reel. If you pull the belt out fast, it has no way of knowing if you're in a hurry or a crash. It just knows the belt is trying to go out fast and locks up.

after taking it on a 250 mile trip this weekend and using the belts more, they are a bit of a pain in the ***. When you put them on they lock up at least twice everytime you try to put them on, even if you are pulling slowly. But that means they will lock up when you do hit someone. And that is good for me cause i rearended someone with my truck last week.
