I took a set of seat upholstery for a 71 Demon and a set of seats from a Dart to the upholstery shop, and they are saying that the actual seat cushion part of the rear seat is too large for the covers to fit.

Would the rear seat lower section for a 70 Swinger be larger than the lower back seat section in a 71 Demon? Or is there just something wrong with the seat cover lower section I got? Anyone really familiar with the differences in seats?

Thanks.

I think they are a little different. My uncle put a Duster rear seat in his 71 Dart and his cover never fit right either.

Anyone else with any experience? I went and looked at it. The width is fine, but the depth and height are both off by about 3". I don't know if the cover was made incorrectly, or if the Demon seat is actually smaller in those directions.

I gave you a perfectly good answer. Call them, they are the leaders in Mopar interiors. They will have your answer.

I know Legendary. I also know that I didn't buy the covers from them, so it's not their responsibility to figure out why my covers don't fit. It was also after 6:00 pm in New Jersey when I asked my question, and I figured they were closed. THere are thousands of people out there that must have dealt with this before, and I am looking for some of their personal experience.

No..in your original question you asked if "anyone was familiar with the differenses in seats", not "who's responsibility it was to figure them out".

If anyone is familiar with the differences in the seats it would be Legendary.

You asked a question, I gave you answer. You see, thats how these forums work. Good luck.

I'm not trying to get in argument about anything. I asked a question, and I'm looking to find input from people that may have delt with the problem before. I know Legendary makes good stuff. You're probably a swell guy, and your advice was good. I just want to know what someone else has to say about it. Asking for a second opinion can be a very good idea, in many situations.

And as far as Legendary goes, I sent a PM to the lail1985 asking a question about seat interchanges on 7/15, and have never received an answer. That tells me that Legendary doesn't like giving out advice. My question was even in reference to buying a set of covers from them.

I would say front seats are the same rear seats are not. A Demon would use the same rear seat as a Duster.

I Have A 72 Duster Rear Seats And 74 Dart Buckets I Ordered 74 Dart Seat Covers For Front And Back. I Assumed The Rears Would Be The Same. I Assumed Wrong They Were A Different Size. On The Back The Bottom Were The Same. So Yes They Could Very Well Be Different, Cause Mine Were. Hope This Answers Your Questions.

What I can tell you from my experience wont answer your original question.
The rear seat bottom was the hardest piece to skin. The instructions say start at the back and work forward. I lay the seat upside down, place a 4 foot piece of 2X6 on the springs and have a couple people stand on it to get the skin to reach over the corners and down the front edge. Tight as a banjo string when done.
Now for what I believe to be the reason... Models with a square back glass can accomodate a taller rear seat bottm than models with a slooped back.
Those models with fold down rear seats would have thinner backs and bottoms. Consider the VW beetle. That rear seat bottom couldn't get thin enough to keep heads off the glass. LOL
Anyway... I think aftermarket patterns for the rear seat bottom skins are "one size fits all" in design. Maybe the factory skins were too. Maybe the frames are all the same and thickness of batting varries for different models.
All the covers I've installed came from Legondary. Never had a problem other than that tight fit at rear bottom. Tight is better than loose in my opinion.
Am I saying make it fit ? No, but first time I encountered this issue and quesioned Legondary (by phone) that's what they told me.

Tom,
We actually love to try and help enthusiasts out with technical assistance whenever possible. I apologize that you did not receive a call back from someone here at Legendary. The 70 Dart rear seat covers will not fit on the 71 Demon frames because they are a different shape. You will need to get 70 Dart frames to make them work. If you or anyone else ever has a technical question, please contact our tech service representative at tech@legendaryautointeriors.com

Thanks and good luck.

Actually, I have a 70 Dart and 71 Demon/Duster covers. They fit everything well, except the lower rear. But the information you gave me answers the question. Thanks.

So, for those who have put Duster seats in a Dart, how poorly did they fit? I'm leaning toward getting a couple of yards of fabric and making the cover I have fit. That way I know it's the right seat. I just need to come up with a chunk of fabric that is the right color. The people I got the covers from are no help.

I just wanted to throw some cheap covers on these seats. I made an assumption, and now I'm learning from my mistake. Now I know, and knowing's half the battle.

Go Joe!

How Big Of A Chunk Do You Need, What Color And Grain? If You Don't Mind Me Asking Who Was The Mfg. I Should Be Able To Help You Get What You Need.

I'm not sure who really manufactured the covers. I got them from http://www.pgclassic.com/ . The auction link is http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&&item=120287675089 . If you click on the color choices, I got the 340 blue. I'm not sure if it's the same as the 340 blue Legendary uses or not. I'm not sure what that grain is, but maybe you can tell from the picture?

I am hoping to add about three enches to the front and rear of that piece, so I basically need about 6' x 6". I'd imagine that normally you'd buy two yards of fabric to do that, right?

Tom, THE COLOR MATCH MAY BE A PROBLEM, CALL ME AT MY WORK 800-363-8804 X-212(LEGENDARY AUTO) THE PIECE OF MATERIAL THAT YOU NEED IS NO PROBLEM ONCE WE GET A COLOR MATCH, I'LL SEND YOU SOME SAMPLE'S. DON'T WORRIE ABOUT THE COST I WILL TAKE CARE OF THAT. SCOTT

Actually, I called and talked to someone this morning and he is going to send me a sample of the 340 blue vinyl. Do you think that you should send more samples for me to compare? I'll PM you my address.
