i think asking why a person is selling is smart thing to do...but i understand what you're saying too...

i think being an informed consumer makes lots of sense! therefore knowing what you`re buying is smart certainly! 1st by researching the relative market availability and value and then by asking questions of the seller about the condition or needs of the item in question. such as; does it burn oil, etc, but the reason i`m selling it? lets say i`m the nervous type and talking for me is just a kneejerk, nervous reaction and i go on and on and what i say makes no sense...are you gonna buy the car? why not? lets say i`m just the most tremendous fish storyteller you ever met. SO WHAT?
a car is a car and if you did your homework, the paperworks right and the value meets the price...what else do you care?
no, i don`t think its nessesarily smart at all to ask WHY ARE YOU SELLIN IT?
maybe having some little story makes you more comfortable?
