I removed my 750 edel carb and put a new 770 street avenger
on my 383 b-cuda. The car has new filters, clean lines and
tank, holley red pump and 13.5 in of vacuum in gear. The
car idles better and cleaner, but as soon as it hits 2000 rpm
it lean bogs bad enough to kill the motor. I tryed jetting up
3 steps, put the black spring in the secondary and a 31 shooter
in it and it still has the same problem.
I just put the edel back on the car runs fine again.
Any body have an ideas on the Holley?

how is the float setting on the primary and secondary bowl. also the black spring is usually for heavy vehicles i would try the natural one. sounds like it doesnt have enough fuel to supply the motor as rpms increase. also take a look at the needle and seat making sure it moves free.

Thanks for the reply. I verified the float levels
and the needle and seat are clean and working.
I blew out all the passages but the power valve
with a can of air and there are no blockages.
I have a take apart front fuel filter, I took it apart
and there is no debris in the filter. The reason for
the black spring was to make sure the secondaries
would not open. I will change that once I know the
primaries are working right.

im thinking somehow the secondaries are opening but no fuel is being supplied. have you looked to see if fuel is coming out the secondaries when they open? might be time to call holleys tech line, hopefully someone can figure it out or has had the same issue.

I was thinking it acts like the secondaries are comming on
and did the paper clip on the arm trick and it did not
move. I am pretty sure it is the main system not coming
in or to lean and maybe I need a 10.5 power valve instead
of the 6.5. I have been trying to get through to Holley and
the line seems to be busy all the time.
thanks,

The avenger is a much bigger carb than the Edelbrock. Like 100cfm bigger. With the sceondaries unable to open, it may still have issues with drawing fuel out of the boosters during transition. If you go slowly, will it rev? The better choice would be the 670 Avenger.
