Hey guys,

im looking for a nice monster tach with shift light for my scamp and came across two from sunpro....both are 5inch, one is the super tach III and one is the supertach ST....my question is has anybody ever used these tachs, or any other sunpro tachs, and how did you like them? I know they have been around forever, but their cheap prices have me curious as to how well they perform...share your experiences 8)

Sunpro has been around for ever. I have a small one that I took out of its case and mounted in the dash of my Cuda. I don't think they are on par with Autometer but they are not a bad product.

I have a small one in my 66 Valiant, it was a waste of money. The needle is so dampened it can't respond to my slant six revving up and its not accurate at all.
It should be on your "do not buy list"

lol...wow seems like everyone is a hater on em....goldberg has one in his A990 clone project, plus they have been around forever, so i assumed they were pretty good....i guess if they are that bad then im going to look at the Equus gauges or Auto gauge (cheaper auto meter version) brands....if those still dont suffice, then i guess i will go autometer

well has anyone out there had any good experience with the sunpro tachs? they are cool looking and easy on the wallet too...anybody?

I got the auto guage unit in the Duster. It's the big 5 in.
one. It has the shift lite in the guage face. Works great and
was a good price.
You won't be disapointed with it.

I bought one years ago. Stupid needle was not accurate and was bouncy. I took it back to Advance Auto (that or AutoZone) and told them the truth. They gave me the money back without question... kind of like people return them all of the time or something.

Auto Gage is made by AutoMeter. They aren't bad tachs at all. I would by a Auto Gage waaaayyyy before I'd buy a Sunpro. just my .02 however.

lol...ok ok, i think im getting the picture...i believe you guys...i guess im just going to have to sacrifice my love of their retro look for an auto gage or equus

I have used the super tach II in a few of my vehicles. I never had any concerns with them. I even sold quite a few of them when I was in the parts biz. I never had any complaints. Unless they have changed something in the mfg. of the part, which, given this day & age, anything is possible. The last one I had was ten years ago. Right now I have the Auto-gauge tach in the car now. It was free.

finally a supporter....no one has really responded to what tachs from sunpro they used...im talking about the ones with the shiftlights...they seem to be pretty decent...but yes products do change over time...its good to hear though that atleast one person had a good experience with them...any others maybe?

I remember now the Sunpro I bought and returned had a shift light made in the tach (not on the side) it work good. LOL

mullinax, you said the needle was bouncy and thats why you returned it...but you are saying the light was good? im a little confused...or are you saying it was a good gauge, and you just prefer autometer...im just looking for an accurate guage that looks cool without breaking the bank, thats why im interested in the sunpro stuff

last call for you sunpro supporters to show your love lol...any takers, or are we mainly all haters?

You shouldn't be confused. A gauge arm and a light are too seperate things. The arm was bouncy at low RPM not up where the shift light comes on.

I never said and never will say that they are good gauges. I had a bad luck with one and that was enough for me. And in the same time I was warned that Sunpro is the "cheap ****!" I don't know about you but I don't want cheap **** in my car after all I have spent already.

Go buy you a Sunpro gauge..and if you don't like it return it.

i love my sunpro tack it works like a champ no hesatation what so ever unless u do some thin to mess it up like punch it or drop it ya know hahaha in stall a wire rong or something

It seems like Sunpro was bought out by Snap-On, but now the name has been licensed to a cheap set of Chinese made gauges.

We have a Sunpro tach at work; it's sitting on an equipment test bench. The accuracy is fairly good, though as it's not on a real engine I can't comment on how well it reacts to rapid change. I would say it's adequate, but not great. Whether to use it or not depends on the nature of your project. The weird looks of it kept it off the project cars.

Is Sun the same as Sunpro?
I bought an old, never used, still in the box Sun tach and I have no complaints.
