This post is for a couple of reasons, one being that I've tentatively booked off the first week in December and plan to be in Victoria with my wife visiting my sister in Sidney from Nov 29 to Dec 6 this year. I know I missed Neil's (65S) visit from Ottawa when I lived there (d'oh!) but don't hold that against me when I'm there visiting from Ottawa! I should have wheels to get around, even if they're attached to my sis's Pathfinder... ;)

The second reason for the thread is that my wife and I have been discussing our future out here in Ottawa and have decided that we've just about had enough and are planning to return to the Island to live out the rest of our lives, possibly as soon as spring 2009. It depends right now on if I can get a transfer at my present cushy gov't job or if both she and I can find something new in Victoria. The transfer is anything but guaranteed so I've got my feelers out already. Anyway, we've been out of BC since June 2007 and were wondering what changes have been made out there regarding ICBC, MSP, etc. For me the biggie would be importing the Demon into BC as I've never brought a classic in from another province and was wondering what hurdles I'll be facing doing so. Also, how does the Collector license plate system work through ICBC? Can I assume that my 72 Demon would qualify even though it's a modified car? I honestly can't remember how it works.

As always, any info/tips/help would be greatly appreciated and it goes without saying that I already can't sleep knowing that I could be back on the coast by next year. I've really missed it. :)

Hey Dave

Things have not changed all that much out here. ICBC rates have gone up some what. As importing you need to have the car inspected by a shop that does the povicial inspections and fix what they find wrong, if they find anything.

The colector plate work based on if the part and pieces are period corect and could be bought as options. Then they will pass it, the only things that can be up dated is safty things, brakes, drive shaft hoop........etc.

Now this is my understanding and it could be different, I think that there is a Hot Rod plate as well. You should be able to find out all this on ICBC web site, though they are goverment so maybe not.

The safety inspection can be pretty rough so make sure you fix anything you know about first to give yourself a fighting chance.

For collector plates your car has to be 100% bone stock other than safety upgrades as mentioned, no after market wheels, stereo, etc. Last I heard the modified collector is for 1958 and older. I've heard two scenerios on it, one is to bump it to 1970 and that's it forever, the other is anything over 50 years old which doesn't help you either.

House prices went nuts in the short time you were away, they are starting to flatten and even dip a bit now but still very high, average price just under 600K

See you in December :-D

Dave...looking forward to seeing you in Dec. We can explain everything you need to know over a few (?) brewski's!!! I thought Neil was talking about coming out again as well...maybe you'll both be here at the same time! I went through the import thing (from Washington) with my Dart, so I can update you there. Collector plates are great!!...$200/year for full coverage!

Don't they limit your use on those collector plates ? I thought they hit you with that six days o month , daylight hours and all that other limited use crap ?
And housing prices are falling faster than the realtors are letting on I build condos and sales are in the crapper we're doing a building now that the developer took off the market cause they still have a third of the units unsold in the last building we finished ,after 4 years of selling everything before we broke ground , prices are on the way down the sales were off 30 % last month so welcome home , hold your cash and in a couple of months you'll get somebody's 600k nightmare for 400k or less - depending on the US crisis I know of a condo unit that sold for 800k+ 1.5 years ago to an american that is on the market for 585k today - remember real ground is made during the bust not the boom , see ya soon Eh!

The only limits on the Collector plates are: no driving to or from work or school...other than that, no problem. No mileage or limited days use. There are fairly restrictive things you can do to your car and still keep the plates. Go to the ICBC website and search "Collector Car Plates" and see them. The 6 days a month, daylight hours and stuff might apply to "Vintage" plates. Those are for really early cars, such as 1900's, teens and 20's,etc. Some of those cars never came with lights,so driving at night is out.

Cannucky...since your in Vic, as am I, do we know you or your car?

Good luck coming back out to BC if you decide to make a move, hope all works well for you. Won't you miss the Ontario winters, LOL??!!

BAH! Just tonight after an extra-long weekend of 20 degree weather did our favourite meteorologist warn of a chance of wet flurries by mid-next week. The whole idea of snow gives me the blues... my friends are already putting their cars away in storage! Bleh. :(

I'd move out tomorrow if I could afford it, which I can't.

December can't come fast enough... and I'm making no guarantees that my return plane ticket won't go missing during my vacation!

you probably see me at francelli's on saturday nights , do you have that pale copper covert? I'm still driving the big green pimpmobile { 2tone mettalic green 77 grand prix with the white landau } and hiding it around back on saturdays while my 69 fastback is being finished , the 69 used to sit in the lot across from the SOFA but has been back in forth to our local god of mopar for the past year and a half , it's now turbine bronze and i had it out last sunday { no back or side windows haha } just to shake her down a little . I used to ride with mark rush in his light blue dart . Any how you will definately see my car out there next year , I had his majesties white 69 formula s car out there a couple of times this summer - man what a ride that beast is- but it's not the same as driving your own eh.

Oh yeah. I think we've talked a few times, right? Mark with the Cragars and /6,4-speed Dart? Right. Cool. Lookin' forward to seeing your F/B out next year. I had the Dart out last Sunday too, being it was nice and sunny.

"Local God of Mopar"...LOL...a.k.a. Peter W.?

Cheers!

Anyways Dave, if you do make it to the Island again, it would be great to meet you, cruise around or something. I know a lot of the Mopar up north of the Island from Vic so I could surely introduce you to some awesome people up my way as well. Looking forwards to you coming.

I've tentatively booked off the first week in December and plan to be in Victoria with my wife visiting my sister in Sidney from Nov 29 to Dec 6 this year.

So, did you make it out here, Dave? I didn't hear from you, so I assume you didn't.

Dave

Can you update us on this? Is it going to happen?

Hey there.
I have a 71 Demon 340,plum Crazy scat pack car.I live in the B.C. interior.
I know of a lot of Demon owners throughout the Pacific Northwest.
I have this recurring dream every once in awhile to try and get a gathering of Demons together at a Central place.
One name for this event could be "To Hell and Back."
I wonder if it could become a reality some day?
Good luck on your move to the Island!

I guess the 1st step would be to find a spot.
As i live in the West Kootenays,i suppose that is a fairly Central area being half way between Vancouver and Calgary.
As well as North/South from Prince George to the States.
Any ideas as to the best way to contact more people?
Probably get the info. out on the web and send posters to be distributed.
Hmmm.....
