I am planning to put a fiberglass 6-pac hood on my 1972 Plymouth Duster. Does anyone have suggestions as to where to buy the best quality item??

Anyone running their bolt on hoods? Where do you find lighter springs and how much of a b**** are they to install ?? Looks like the trunk decks use the stock hinges?

I had one of there bolt on hood on my Barracuda. Nice piece, I got the springs from a member.

They are a pain to install if you dont have the fenders off.

I also had a bolt on trunk lid but never got around to installing it.

Bolt-on. You don't want to deal with a pin-on for a street car. Herb Beer modifies the stock springs for use with AAR hoods. R&R'ing the hinge springs is easiest with the fenders off. You may be able to do it through the splash shields. Fit is excellent on the hoods.

The alternative is to pop the springs off (through the splash shields) and use a prop rod. I much prefer the not using a prop rod.

Like the guys said, bolt on the way to go, you can't use the stock springs with the fiberglass hood so your options are the smaller springs or prop rod.

Thanks for the link and the heads up guys .. I definitely don't like the idea of propping the hood open either ...

I'm in a quandary about how much I can/want to spend on the Duster .. I have a six pack hood around here somewhere but don't want to go cutting up the stock hood..

Ideally, I'd like to do glass hood, fenders and trunk deck. That should cut a good chunk of weight off..

Anyone have any luck with the glass bond on door skins ??

:read2:Thanks for the info guys! I will be checking all this out today! Will let you know what kind of decision I make.
We have a '71 Duster 340 that we will not be changing, but are changing the '72 Duster 340 - - trying to keep one stock. Will post photos tonight.
Again, thanks!

I have a pin on AAR hood. The pin on is a pain at times, but makes things really easy when wrenching, though.

i got an AAR hood too, but i don't have it on yet...

Don't want to interupt; Demon Seed- That's a beautiful paint job.

No ****!! Demon, I would dearly love to do my Duster all black but my body working skills won't allow it. :angry7:

AAR makes the highest quality fiberglass parts in both fit and finish, but they are not cheap and don't freak on the shipping costs.

That's funny ramcharger, cuss the guy that did the prep and paint swore he'd never ever do another black one. You see with that black and 3 coats of clear if the sheet metal isn't perfect, no ripples, that paint will show it plain as day. Dave spent a lot of time wet sanding the body before paint and I think he's hated me ever since. Since the hood was an after thought I had a local guy do the prep and paint on it, he runs a business rebuilding and painting old vettes so I figured he'd know how to do fiberglass and I was right. It's a perfect match.:toothy10::toothy10:

Thanks guys, we have checked out the hoods and have decided to go with the AAR hood - - will let you know the result and any problems encountered.
We have a 71 Duster 340 that we are leaving stock, but have decided to "jazz-up" the 72 so that when we attend car shows they are not in the same class - - the wife's car (the 71) is a huge head turner! Now, I have to work like the devil getting my car up to the same standard!!

Are you gonna go with the lighter springs ?? I ordered a pair from this guy on a thread Adam posted above:

I haven't ordered my hood yet, cause I'm still on the fence on going with glass fenders..

Good luck,

Kenny

Seems like AAR is the top choice. I often wondered myself. As for the AAR products, how good is their one-piece frontend?
