Just wondering if someone fabricated an Auto steering column to look like a manual column. I was thinking you can chop off the shifter and the shifter indicator housing and fabricate a plate to cover the void. Anyone done it? Is it feasible?

Yep,its no biggie, just wack off the unwanted indicator, and shifter arm stub, and fill in the holes with kitty hair(its evercoats brand of fiberglass strand putty)then a light coat of finish putty, primer and paint,no one will ever know you had an auto column.I dont know how easy it would be to make a cover,if its a column newer than 68 or 69,when mopar went to key switch in the column,it would be hard to make something look right in the key area,i think.Ive also used JB weld to fill in the voids on these columns, works good too.

There are several 2 part exopy puttys on the market now taht can be worked like PlayDoh. I used it. I think it's called Magnum Steel and I think I bought it at Lowes. Been a while and my memory sux .

I did mine on my 66 valiant, but I went as far as getting a manual steering collar to replace the column shift collar. I did not fill the hole. I just cut the top of the steering tube so I could clock the hole down to the 6 o'clock postion. You never see it unless you look under the column.

This is an alternative but filling woul be easier I imagine.

That's what I wanted to hear. LOL I'm going to chop off the linkage arm at the bottom of the column also.
