OK, don't shoot, but it's not even a Mopar .. It's a '95 F250 that I've been plowing our yard out with for 10 years..

After plowing today I noticed a noise I never heard when taking off from a dead stop in 4 wheel drive .. It's kind of a clunk clunk ....clunk clunk ... clunk clunk... that increases in tempo with speed ..

I tried un-locking the hubs and leaving it in 4 wheel and it doesn't do it.. It doesn't do it in 2 wheel drive either, only in 4 high or low..

Anyone got any ideas ?? I don't need major headaches with this old girl right now, but I'm guessing something is F'd in the front diff??

thanks in advance,

Kenny

Probably a bad joint. Especially as it changes with wheel speed and such. Time to go under and poke and prod, and don't forget to yank on stuff to. I would have someone else hop inside and pull it forward when it makes the noise so you can walk around and try to pinpoint the noise area.

My guess would also be a u joint. If it doesn't get worse when turning look at the front drivshaft. Also check and make sure there isn't snow/iced packed in somewhere causing the noise.

Thanks guys .. I'll get to check it out tomorrow, looks like the snow is over for a while.. Maybe I'll get lucky.. There was a serious amount of snow/ice/clunkers built up, so I turned the heat on in the shop and will let her thaw out tonight..
