seller not 100% on the numbers as he was looking through fender well..said motor came from a 1973, newyorker...I have heard early 1973 motors had 1972 bottem ends..forged crank, but 1973's top ends ? any truth ? thanks for any help...would like to get a 440 forget crank motor for my dart were building...

There is only one way to be certain that this engine has the forged crank and that is to drop the pan take a look at it, it's easy to tell the difference. To some degree you can't even go by the vibration dampener (the cast and forged dampener are different) because someone may have put a cast dampener on a forged crank or visa versa. At the drivers side front of the block, across from distributor, is a 1"x2" flat area of the block with an initial like H followed by 440 stamped into it. The letter "H" stands for 1972 and so on.
