Anyone running 225/70-14's on there cars?

I am having are hard time choosing between a 215/70-14 or 225/70-14 all the way around, for my 70 Dart.

I have narrowed my search down to these 2 sizes.

I have a chance to pick up some 225's at a really good price, but dont want to buy them if there going to be to big and rub.

Anybody ?

Thanks.

Here's an old pic of my car with 215 75 R14 tires all the way around. I have tons of room in the back; I'm going to be putting 235's or even 245's on the back this summer. The front now has 195 65 R14.

My sons 74 Dart Swinger had junk 195's all the way around when we bought it. We went with 205's up front and 225's out back. If I was going with one size all the way around, I would go with 215's. Here are some pictures for comparison.

I am running 235/60/14 on the rear and 185/65/14 on the front for that classic muscle car look.

Thanks all apreciate it.

However my question is about 225/70-14's

Not 235,245,etc,ect. I have narrowed it down to 2 sizes.

225/70-14.....Thats my question.

I have a chance to get some 225/70-14's at a killer price.

Are they to tall for the front ?

Will they rub in the front ?

True,

But I know a 225/70-14 is starting to push the limit on the fronts.

Dont want to waste money.

Like your point though.

Here is my wife's Swinger with 225-70-14s on stock wheels.

The torsion bars were still cranked up in these shots, but the tires fit fine with no issues after the front was lowered.

Bob,
Thank you,I think you just sold me.
Really like the stance of that car.

I have 225-70-14s on the back of my car. 215-70-14s up front. I would grab them. If you feel they're to big for the front you have 2 sets of rears. You know your gonna need them, LOL

I run 215/70-14s all the way around. You can see my gallery and get a pretty good idea of what it looks like. I live in Torrance. If you are close you can come by and see in person. Doug

Now I'm leaning towards the 215/70-14.

225's look a little big on the front.

I will check out your gallery.

Thanks everyone for helping me out.

My 215`s will scrape the edge of the wheel lip just slightly once in a while. They are right at the threshold of being too large for my car with the height set where it is. I think a 225 would probably be too much for my car.

I like it !

Those tires look right for the car.

Very nice car as well.

Thanks.

215's might me the answer.
Dont want any rubbing with this car.

Thanks !

215's on my 73 Duster were tight up front, actually trimmed the bottoms of the front fenders for clearance as they would rub when backing up and turning sharp. 225's most likely will rub in the front, but not all cars are exactly the same. Dart's front fenders are shaped differently. If you have some wheel spacers you might want to take your existing wheels/tires(hopefully they are at least 205-70 or 195-75's) and space them out about one 1", if they don't rub you are probably good to go. The lower front fender is usually where they will rub, crank your wheels over and check clearance with what's on there now.

I compared the 225/70-14 tire package size with the 235/60-15 that I have on the Demon. The overall diameter of the 225/70-14 is 0.4" greater than mine. The 225/70-14 will rub in front because of this. Given the downside of trying to make more room, I recommend the 215s if those are the only two sizes considered.

I've read several comments on this site that A-body Mopars are not always square. Some have commented on having a rub on one side, but not the other. I note on my Demon that there is more clearance between the right rear tire and the spring than there is on the left side. ???

There are two things you can do to get a little more room in front. One is to drill holes on the underside of the wheel opening lip, then roll the inner portion of the lip up. The holes are to reduce the retention of water in the crease created. Second is to slide the fenders out to create the maximum allowable gap between the hood and the fenders. If this works, you can start reducing the gap until you get a rub. If you do this you'll also need to adjust the front door hinges as well so the doors line up with the fender.

Ended up going with 215/70-14's.

Looks Awesome. I have Cooper Cobra's 2257014's on their way from Summit Racing. Got a killer price match on them. They'll go on my '74 & I'll post about the fit when I get them installed.
