I bought some band clamps shown below from Dynomax to attach to my Spitfire headers. The space in the early a-bodies is very tight and I want to maintain the 2.5" diameter of the header collector tube. I can at least clock the clamp in any direction I need to clear the Z-bar and such.. My muffler guy could weld on the typical headers flanges but getting 2.5" pipe in there is tough with the Z-bar and all. He can use U-bends to snake it in there but I was thinking of using these band clamps like they use on the semi trucks and turbos.

Or these but they are more expensive and require welding.

I think it should work well for my setup but was wondering if anybody ever tried using these before? And if so, what tricks did you use to keep them from leaking.....silicone, etc?

I'm waiting for an answer as well. I want to remove the U bolt clamps under my Swinger and replace them with these. What do they cost?

I used the upper pictured ones to connect my h pipe to the header collectors which dont have flanges. They work very well, but dont count on them to keep the pipes from rotating on each other,if your not using a h or x pipe, they wont, your system needs to have supports at the correct locations to prevent that from happening.

yep planned on having some supports. They cost about $14 each for the top ones. The weld on ones are $43ea.

I have used the upper ones quite a few times. make sure you get the good quality thick ones. the thinner cheap ones will sometimes tear at the ends when you tighten them down. never had problems with them leaking, just make sure the ends of the pipe are clean and burr free. use slip joints for the system and if your worried about a leak you can use liquid teflon inside the joint and idle the car for a few. the teflon heats up and turns like carbon to seal it up.

This one time, at band clamp.........

Thought the same thing when I saw the post listed.

One time at band clamp I took my tail pipe and shoved it in my...... :toothy10:

Who makes the bottom ones and where can they be bought. I have seen them before with a copper wire for an o ring seal. Great if you ever have to drop the exhaust.

well the band clamp is all iv ever used and never had aleak come luse or any thing else i cut the flange of the headers slide pipe over it titen tell ends touch tite. clamp one each side in back. and have reused them many times. to buy good ones go some where thay sell truck parts not car parts thires a big diference in them wen you titen them you will see them form to the pipe im running 512inch.big block threw mine. after using good ones you will forget about all the rest.

Good to know. Glad to get some experienced info.

I was checking the stainless steel ones out,I,d like to use these with the spitfire headers. Can they be removed at the track to run open exhaust? Then re-used?If yes,how many times can you reuse them?

dam you boys get up erly oooooootobe young again.ok iv had mine of four times so far.after this week probly six as of now no lek.im running four inch.into (x)thru five inch bullets.oh and yes i drive to track .

I've used them for years, yes you can remove and re-use but after a while they tend to stretch and won't seal as well.
