who's Running 18 "s ?

-
I run 18's on my Iroc Daytona, but not on my A-body.

I ran an 18's in my old 75 Dart. It had a tired 150,000 mile 2bbl 318, and 2.45 gears.

Does that count?:-D

I have Centerline Retro 17x7 and 18x8's on my '74 Valiant. It's shaved in 2-tone sealer now. But it has a 408 stroker instead of paint! I like the Centerlines, because they offer custom offsets for their 2-piece wheels. Just measure and call, they will build to order.

Twistedvaliant -- Those look pretty good. I was looking at the same wheels from Centerline. What was the backspacing on each and which tires (brand of tire and size) are you running? It looks like you have discs up front. Which setup - standard '73-'76 single-piston factory setup?

I have been looking for some lighter wheels in the larger sizes and with the ability to have larger positive offset for the front of my 65. I have swapped in the '73-'76 single piston factory discs and was surprised by the approximately 2.7" increase in front track. I want to tuck them back in and still have the rear with normal backspace to fit the smallish wheel wells on the 65.

Yes, the brakes are stock, it's a 74, want to go to big 4-wheel disks, but first things first. As for wheel backspace, the front are 17 x 7 with a 4" backspace, and the back are 18 x 8 with a 4 1/2" backspace. The tires are Falken FK-452, 225-45ZR17 on the front, 245-40ZR18 on the back. They tuck very nicely.
I think that you can convert from the OEM drums to disks, several manufacturers make kits, but you would have to measure after installation to verify fitment. I used the wheelrite tool to check offset before ordering your wheels. If you are going to order these from Centerline, buy them direct, and look at all of the 2-piece designs, they sold me these for the same price as the cheapest 2-piece on the website, even though these are the most expensive of the style.
You can PM me if you have more questions about the car, wheels, tires, or any other questions you may have.

I dont know whos Duster it is, but I came across this one with 18's for sale on the net for almost $30,000...... but its nice!!!

This is making me want to vomit all over my keyboard. I actually am quite sick. I alway's want to kill people when I see those ugly big yucky rims and tires on thier cars. And thats when I see them on Fords. I would have never thought that someone would be putting these onto cool A-bodies. Or any mopar. Yuk!!!! But I will say this. abodyjoe's car looks cool with those rims and tires. I would have never thought they were that big. And 392Mopar's look cool too. I guess it is all about what rim it is for me. If it is an old school type rim they look alright. It's when ya get into these "new school" looking chrome ones is where I get real sick. Anyway, I didn't mean to offend anyone. This is just my opinion. I think my age group are probably on the same page with this issue.

i'll tell ya the 17" rims made a huge difference in the way the car handles. i couldn't believe the difference. feels allot more stable without the big sidewalls.

The OP didnt ask for opinions.......however, some of us have bigger rims for brake clearance or a particular theme with there cars. Make sense?? The difference between a 17" and an 18" is this [........] much. Really enough to make you "vomit all over my keyboard"??

I do agree w/ ya on the chrome, in most cases. Just another pic of a Demon on 18's and airride, in case your nausea had subsided.....lol

Do you have a link to the listing? I did a quick search on google and went through ebay but didn't come up with anything.

Edit: Never mind, I found it.

Definitely a big my bad on that one. I thought I read on the RMS Tech Pages about avoiding the use of 18's, I just reread the tech and can't find a mention of it anywhere. My mistake, I'm just going to have to measure like crazy to squeeze some 18" FR500's underneath.

I think I read some where that if you cant run more than 5 inch of backspacing with a 17 rim and a AlterK because it will hit the tie rod at full lock in both directions. If I am remembering right.

no thats not right. my 17" wheels have a 5.72 backspace with the alter-k.

to clear up any confusion about the alter-k and rim size/backspace..

this is right from the web site and the directions.

Limitations As with any performance product, there are some compromises to achieve bolt-on status. In the case of this system, wheel backspacing is limited, depending on tire size. The following numbers allow approx. 1/4" of clearance between the rim and tie rod end...

14" rim - 3.25" backspace maximum
15" rim - 3.25" backspace maximum
17" rim – 5.75" backspace maximum
18"+ rim – 6”+ backspace

Note - a 17" rim clears the tie rod end entirely, however with more than 5.75" backspacing, the rim may hit the tie rod at full lock in either direction. If wider 17" rims are needed, an adjustable stop may be welded to the lower a-arm to limit turning radius. These figures are based on suspension clearance only.
There’s no guarantee that a wider 17" rim, or the tires, will clear the frame rails or other parts of the car. Large wheels and tires typically require clearancing in other areas as well, and it is the owner’s responsibility to determine the requirements of his/her particular situation.
As always, we're always happy to help or answer any questions you might have.

I went looking for where I read that and found it in the February 2004 issue of Mopar Muscle. They did a wright up on the AlterK and said that. Must have been a mistake? Or mabby bill worked in a little more room?

Do you think you could run a set of 15" weld drag lights with the AlterK Joe?

ahhh those magazines are always getting stuff wrong. can't believe half the stuff printed in them.

yes you will be able to run the drag lights. just make sure the backsopace is good. there is a guy on BBD that is running a 15X6 steel wheel up front with his. think they were custom ordered. i was running a 15x4 cragar for a while on mine.
