340 K Member ??

-
this was a quick way for the assembly line workers to know that they were installing the HD 340 K-member. The gussets shown previously is what adds strength and thus fit the performance A-body.

Color coding applies to rims. The 340 14x5.5 rims have the yellow band down the center. The other rims for b-bodies have green and blue depending on width.

Had to go to the garage and check my 72 340 duster.......... And its a yes!Washer welded right in the center of the front on the K-frame. Great information here, did not know this before now.
Matt

Had to check, my 1970 340 Dart has one! So does this 1971 340 Duster I came across today buried in the snow. I checked our 1970 Dart 318, it does not have one.

My '68 340 formula S FB has one. Always thought that somebody other than the factory had welded it there. My build date is 12/26/1967.

I don't think my 8/28/67 SPD 68 GTS convertible has one, but I haven't really looked under and around that car in quite a while. Some day, after I get my Barracuda together, it will come completely apart for a proper resto.

My Dart has a washer on the front of it. I just thought some one put it on there to reinforce a crack but never could find one. Now I know why. Thanks FABO!!!

I noticed this a while back when I was parting out a '71 340 Duster and a '72 340 Duster. both had the washer.

My 2 1970 340 dusters have them and a 71 340 duster K-member I have has one.

I remember seeing one on my 73 Dart Sport 340,when I pulled the motor for stroking.Hey!Does that sound right?LOL!!

Just went and looked at my 70 dust 340....yep has an ugly azz washer their...I have owned this car since 93 and never paid attention to that.....Thanks small block

Checked my 1 Demon out today and I got the washer welded on the K member also. Very cool and interesting info to remember.

Finally got around to taking a close look at the k frame in my 69 340 Swinger.
Doesn't have a washer welded in the location But it does have a round disc maybe an inch and a quarter in diameter welded there.

Yeah, what's up with that? Even the rare ones got the 'washer' - my '72 Swinger 340 Special has one and the guys up here with the '71 Swinger 340 Specials have got them as well. At first I thought it was only these 'special' order Swingers but I checked my '70 340 Swinger and it has it too. Has to be some kind of assembly line ID thing...

anyone have any idea why this was done, im going to check out my cuda, as well as a challenger we have that was believed to be a 340 car when i get home...if i remember lol

i seen the k member that was out of my 69 barracuda 340 when i got it. it had the washer on it, the guy pointed it out to me that it was factory for something.

Just looked at two of my 1970 340 Swingers. Both has them. Interesting...

Just looked at my 1970 Challenger RT 440-6 pack and it has the same washer. My 1970 Cuda 340 has a rectangle plate with rounded corners tack welded to the same location. My two 1974 Dart Sport 360's do not have anything.

You are correct. When they put the engines in they were installed from the bottom with the k member already hooked to the engine. The washer was to id the 340 cars.Yes some didn,t have them. Some 383 cars had them also in uther body styles B/E had washers to id 440-6s.Mark

Does Anyone Have A Pic Of A 71 340 Dart.
Were These Made For Canada Only ????
