I have a 68 Barracuda Formula S with power front disk brakes. The manual states that the safty switch in the metering block displays the red brake light on the dash and that the brake system has a problem. I don't know if this is a proportioning valve or distribution block. Just states a terminal unit with a safty switch.

The system has been bleed and feels good and then the pedal goes to the floor board when driving. Also brake fluid has been seeping out of the master cylinder cap when pressure is applied.

I've got a problem, could use some help. I've call the local auto parts shops and of course the only porp. vavle is a universal unit. Any help in locating the proper valve would be appreciated.

Thanks Chris

Ya, I had that problem with one of my ' 68's. I had either the wrong proportioning valve or a bad one. Have you tried www.rockauto.com??? They seem to have a lot of parts for my ' 65 that my local auto parts store cant even get. And they are also a lot cheaper.

You answered your own question with "pedal is fine then goes to the floor". Buy a master cylinder. It's bypassing internally. The metering valve is working fine since it did turn the light on. The fact that a master cylinder will fir a few warning shots before failing completely is one of our blessings. :)

Just had the master clyinder rebuild. It was a old one off a duster I think.
One thing I did notice is that after bleeding the system I pulled the cap off the master cylinder and pumped the brake pedal and a little squirt would come up from the piston on the resivior for the rear brakes every time I pumped the brake pedal. Is that normal?

Maybe the master clyinder is bad after a rebuild? But the pedal feels fine and does not move or react like a worn out master cylinder. Just checked it out with out the engine running.

Chris

Yeah some fluid movement in the resivoir is normal.
To have a good pedal at one redlight and not at the next not normal.

to check if it is the M/C...you have to undue the lines at the M/C and plug the holes in the m/c....then press on the pedal, if it is rock hard and stays their..the m/c is good...if it falls to the floor it is M/C

I'll remove the lines and block off. Make sure of the M/C is ok and check to see if the cap continues to seep. I have to remove the line anyways. In a way I hope it is a M/C. The meter block is a little more work.

Maybe a stupid question here, but, are you sure you don't have a seized caliper or wheel cylinder. I've had this happen, no air was in the lines, blead them over and over to be 100% sure, the pedal feel was good also, but with the engine running, I could get that pedal to the floor.
Might be a little late now, hope you read this before you disconnect more lines, check your calipers and wheel cylinders.

All the best.

Going to start this weekend. Trouble shoot first. Pull the wheels off 1st and go from there. Thanks for the tips
