t5 trans swap?

-
3 more questions lol. what is the length or the v6 t5 input shaft? and diameter of the hole i will need in the bellhousing? and how dose a speedo work with this tranny? will a stock a-body one work or like a autometer? thanks. this thread is a lot of help

he says he got the master cylinder from keislier,,ide like to hear the price,,im sure its pricy,,,as for his slave cyl,,, you can google cnc it wil come up,,and you can buy it at jegs summit or speed way,,,

the pic of the pedal linkage to the master looks to me like it doent travel to much,,how did you arrive at that hook up point???

looks really good

McLeod Industries 139002- $142.69 master cyl
Wilwood 260-1333- $73.95 attached pic- slave cyl

i did some research and found these. i am confused on the slave cyl. why dose it have a rod coming out both ends? would it be push/pull?

hey tyler, i take it that you may have your hands on a v6 t5 and if thats the case, i wouldnt recommend using it because they are not world class trannies and cant handle too much power (atleast from what i remember)...this page has some good links for t5 general info, check it out

Entire master setup came from Keisler Engineering. I paid $280.00 for it. It fits in the stock 4 speed linkage hole on the fire wall. I tried several different master setups but couldn't get it to where I was happy with it. The billet adapter is a pretty trick piece. T5 input shaft is 1 1/16" i believe. If I have time I will try to throw the bench seat from my wife's 72 dart in my car to give you bench seat guys an idea of where things would sit.

I have entire pedal travel from the top pedal stop to the floor. I mounted the setup to the firewall first the held the pedal at the top stop and adjusted the rod on the master till i was happy with the location. And to answer Tyler's question on the pull slave one end does the actuation and the other end gives a fixed end with adjustments.

Quick update everyone. My speedo cable showed up today and should work without any problems. It is from a 1967 mustang with a c4 transmission. The following link will help with the selection of speedo gears that are available.

http://www.crt-performance.com/speedometers.htm

The cable screws into the back of the stock mopar speedo. I had to go to Ford to get the gear and retaining clip. Just reference an 89 mustang and they will be able to help you. If your tranny doesn't come with the bolt for the speedo gear it is 1/4"-20 3/4" long. My cable didn't come with the required o-ring to seal the housing but that should be no problem for the auto parts store if you have the cable in hand. Got mine from Rock auto parts on line for $21.00 shipped.
By the way, my black & decker drill's top speed is 80 mph.LoL
I used The Tire Racks website to reference my tire size specs.

the speedo cable from a 67 c4 mustang is the correct length? where did you route the speedo cable through? i think gmachinedart mentioned going through a hole in the floor for his...thanks for the info on this so far, its been a great help

Gear fits in the tranny and the cable has just enough room to clear the trans mount without kinking the cable housing. I had to drop the tranny down a little to wiggle it into the tailshaft but it fits. The cable is actually a couple of inches longer than my stock auto speedo cable.

i dont have a tranny yet lol. i just thought it was the s10 only tranny lol. my bad. i dont like ford enough to not want their tranny in my car lol. so would i find a t5 in a '80s+ v8 camaro or would a mustang be the best way? sorry im a lil predijuce lol

only the t5 from the mustangs will work with the conversion bellhousing...the gm ones were slanted towards the drivers side and will not work from what i know.

737 very good information,,, that slvae you have ,,how long ago did you buy it from keislier ?? you paid 280.00 with the adaprter ?? i looked at the pic i believe the adapter is really a spacer ??

it is made by mc leod,, at summit that slave is 329.00 so you got a deal or got it a while back, you say you have ful travel of the clutch pedal ?? very kool,, have ya shifted it yet ??

The master with the billet adapter/spacer was purchased from Keisler a couple of months ago. It came with everything to install it including the reservoir. I'm not running the hydraulic t.o. bearing from Mcleod. I was going to but it is a little more cash than the budget would allow. I went with the 3 postion adjustable T.O. bearing instead. I probably won't have the car back on the road for another month. I originally took out the drivetrain to replace tranny and engine seals that where leaking from the car sitting. That was 2.5 years ago. I really want to drive it this summer so i'm trying to get it back together. My buddy has a 64 Fairlane and he put a T5 in it last spring and has been hounding me ever since. Itching to whoop some Fairlane butt!!
Hey Tyler, Ford didn't make the trans. Borg warner did so it's ok. They also made T5 trannys for Jeep.

hows the t5 holding up in your buddy's fairlance? also, the adjustable mcleod throwout bearing you used, if its not hyrdaulic, is it possible it may work with the mopar fork?

T5 holding up fine in his car. That adjustable to bearing has the same dimensions for the fork as a stock one. Did you get the measurements I sent you mshred?

There was a topic on Mopart about using a Toyota trans for this swap.. Needless to say, I got sucked in and bought one yesterday... It's a Supra Turbo R154 5sp, rated for 350-400hp, but withstands much higher (like 5-600 w/big turbos) uses Mopar bell, fork, TO bearing, and flywheel. So far, I'm into the whole thing for $400...lol. So we'll have to se how things go together...lol.

sounds good moper! lol i heard about the supra swaps before, but the t5 was a little more common it seemed so i stuck with that...i saw the supra one though on moparts ( I think the guy was in germany or something?)

hey sorry i didnt get back to you yet...good to hear the t5 is holding up for him..whats his setup like? when you say that the adjustable t/o bearing has the same dimensions as the stock one, im assuming you mean the stock ford throwout bearing? i still havent measured the mopar fork yet...just trying to see if there is a bearing that will fit in the mopar fork for the t5 before i go experimenting buying different ones to see by trial and error

sweet. would that be close to the same as the t5? like clutchwise?

It uses the 143 tooth truck neutral flywheel and stock 10.5" pressure plate. Needs to be a diaphram type cover, but I like centerforce and thats what they are. Clutch master and slave need to be figured out. The exh might be fun to come come up with. But it's fairly simple from what they say. Not bolt in. But definately something I can do.

727 i think you said that you are using a ford fork,,with the adjustable throw out bearing correct ?? which fork ?mustang or ?? and is the movement of the fork the same or oppisite of the mopar fork ?? the quick time scatter shields have provisions for both the mopar fork and i believe the ford ball stud,,,

as for the toyota tranny,,from what i have read,it is the same tranny that is used in the dakotas,,the early dakotas trannys seemed to attach normal,,the later dakota im guessing 1993 and newer,,but not sure on the year,,,the tranny attached to the bell from inside the bell,,so you would have to mate the trans to the bell and then install as one unit to the motor,,

the dakota/toyota trannys are made by new process,,a company that chrysler has some owner ship in once upon a time,,and maybe still do i dont know, but new process is the company that built the 833 4 speeds used in all mopar production cars,,

I've heard of the Toyota trans being used before. Where are you getting the swap info from Moper?

Fish, I used the ford stang fork. My bell was only drilled for the Dodge. I tapped and drilled it for a Ford ballstud. ford stud is opposite side of bell from dodge. I have seen some pics of other quicktime bells that were drilled for the ford but mine wasn't. I think the pic of mshred's bell has the ford stud drilled.
