(For Sale?) Hello VIVIAN!! 1967 Barracuda Fastback resto.

Well the tree actually didnt hurt the car too much thankfully. I hope the pictures are good enough for you guys, if you look at the glass there is a slight crack about five inches long, there is a dent in the top of the body I hope i can beat it out when I take down that old headliner, and of coures my driver side mirror got dominted. But I am happy that no severe dammage was done.

I have done a few other things to get this project running. A little TLC on the origional rims and new tires for the rear, I weded in new floor pans on both driver and passenger sides, dropped that big block in to see how much room I just dont have, rebuilt the transmission with new seals and bearings, found all of the clutch linkage and the shifter rods, if you look you will see that I love thoes big grade 8 bolts. I picked up a big block aluminum bell housing for under 250 dollars and all I had to do was helicoil the threads. That purchase honestly made my week beacause it was the least expensive one I have ever seen listed. I know that all of you mopar guys know of how little space there is in the engine bay so I am unfortunately going to have to go with manafolds instead of my vision of welding up my own headers. Say good bye to that extra 15+ horse power. Oh and I almost forgot to mention that I just installed a full suspension upgrade from PST. All polygraphite bushings, the works everything on the front and as in earlier pictures the rear.

Looking good!
Just got my rear passenger floor pan on Thursday.
Can't wait until warmer weather to start working on my 68 fastback!

Hey I got hooked reading this thread and it stoped, this is a awesome build and a cool car can we get an update on your progress? congrats on the awesome b-day present that is a nice car.

AD:-D

Spook - Awesome progress and great pics, man I hope my arm gets better soon, this is awesome inspiration, I want to get started after reading this awesome!

All right everyone I am sorry I have not been crazy up to date on this forum. I started school in early august and have had literally zero time to get back to work on the old girl. I do have something for you guys who appreciate how much of a pain in the a$$ mopar can be! Ok on 1967-1969 A bodies apparently the oil pan is different, that’s all good and dandy until you buy a C-Body oil pan because you read somewhere that it will work with the big block conversion. Now I am not going to say that statement is false but it sure as hell didn’t work for me. Sorry for the language but it was needed in order to fully express how frustrated I was the day I over corrected hard right and hard left to check clearances for headers, linkage, and everything else. Well in short the drag linkage hit the oil pan. I did find an original pan for that year but I can’t justify spending $450 on a pan. How it turned out I essentially took two pans and made one. I went to work on my day off, cut out the problem area and tig welded a new and improved piece on! Here she is welded all together and full of diesel to make sure she didn’t leak. Updated pictures of her on the car are soon to come. Nothing beats zero dollars out of the packet and about three hours of my spare time. Hey everyone I promise pics of the pan on block in the car, pics of the pully's and brckets I bought before and after powder coat and them assembled on the motor by the end of the week!! Hope everyone likes my modification!

Dude...I don't think your oil filter is working...lots of rocks in your oil pan! :)

Nice welds...though! looks good...

Aloha!

Hello from McAlester!! Looks like you have your project well under way!! Keep up the good work, & when your done, com' on down to my place & give me a hand with my duster!!

Here are the pictures I was so late to post, they are not much but when I have to pinch pennies in this crappy economy its just two steps forward one step backward. The dream is to get her up and ready as soon as I get paid for the motor swap I will show in the pictures following the next few posts.

Well it’s been a long time coming and time is short but I decided to undergo another project and put aside the old girl for a month or so. I know I will probably be scolded for posting the new project on this web ring but it’s directly affecting the progress of getting the cuda running again! I will go and snap a few photos after classes today and post them asap of my new little gold mine! I will give everyone a hint... German Engineering undoubtedly fails if the preventative maintenance check at 75K mi. is ignored, some people and their lack of sense amaze me! :-D oh well cash in my pocket

you are doing a great job, in the event you need a Fuel tank i have one that was in my 67 Bcuda. it was in the car for about 3 mo's before i recessed a fuel cell in mine. the Tank is in New condition i also have a next to new set of 15x8" Centerline Small Bolt Pattern wheels 5/4" Circle Wheels. let me know what you need for your Project.

thanks

wow way cool fish! I love fast back fish and a big block 4spd has got to be the best combo.

Now a few posts previous to this one I had stated that I had to put the old girl aside for a while, this is true so take a look at my new adventure. I bought her out of consignment, a thirteen thousand dollar Audi for the lump sum of four grand, the plan is to put a motor in her and sell the six thousand pound sedan! Make about three grand off of the deal and dump some more money into the Cuda. I can’t wait to get this project finished! If you look at the pics it will show the incompetence of the service technicians who preformed the 75K PM on the car. These supposedly ASE certified technicians timed the timing belt to the rotation wrong! In the end all exhaust valves tapped the heads of every cylinder, awesome sound I am sure! So let’s fix her up with a new engine and sell the piece of engineering. Great car just not for me, it’s better to have money in my pocket for the Cuda. I don’t mean to down these technicians an irregular amount but they do work for Audi and the fact that a simple timing belt replacement tripped tem up just shows that if I ever need a blue collar job after college my job security is safe. I know there are competent men and women out there but these mechanics were at best “part changers” not suitable for ASE certification.

Ouch,
good luck with Audi.
Hope you´ll get the money for your Cuda

3.0L A6 hard to believe a tech timed that wrong. Not to say it didnt happen but its way easy to do those considering you have cam and crank locks for doing the timing belt replacement. Probably broke an adjuster :S Audi doesnt accept ASE as a certification to work on there cars tho. just my 2 cents....

Just so you know i think its quite rude to talk down on somebodys profession as if it easy. if that would have been a dealer **** up they would have fixed it in house. But since your so witty, next time i have a car come in with one wire can bus faults or fiberoptic problems ill pm you for suggestions! ***

That’s pretty funny man, I didn’t realize that Audi didn’t do the whole ASE certification thing, seems about right. Well just an FYI it was a dealers technician who destroyed the motor that was partly why I was so overwhelmed as to how the dealership didn’t cover it under warranty. Must just be an Oklahoma thing haha. Sorry to hurt your feelings but as you said, timing that motor is pretty simple so there must have been something else wrong of course. It doesn’t even matter now because she runs like a champ, right about 24mpg in town and 29highway, not great but better than my 6.0 GMC crew cab. Best regards bud.

Be that as it may, no reason for you to trash people that work on those cars. Id expect better from a FABO member.

Hey 74 Scampga,

If you notice in his earlier post he says " I know there are competent men and women out there but these mechanics were at best “part changers” not suitable for ASE certification."

So he is not slagging all mechanics just the ones that timed this car. As you said a good mechanic should have been able to do it.

Well now it seems that one did.

And like you also said "Id expect better from a FABO member." Remember it goes both ways.

74 Scampga,
I live in Atlanta too. I've put my foot in my mouth once or twice here myself, maybe we're under extra stress living in the city and all. Nobody around here would offend someone intentionally...something to think about before saying something in the heat of the moment. Hey, if you live in town there's a cool group of car people who meet casually on Sat mornings at a Donut shop..if you're interested let me know. Come show off your Scamp. (Sorry to veer off the subject of the thread.)

Not trying to throw fire on open flame's but as far as what Audi would/wouldn't do, dealership level or mfr'ing wise I remember back in '79 I was working as a line mechanic at a Pontiac/GMC/Honda dealer. Honda's didn't have the reputation they do today, and Honda discovered a problem with I think it was a head gasket. I was on the Pontiac/GMC side, so I could be wrong with the head gasket. Honda made a bold move and deceided to fix/rebuild any Civic that had any signs of antifreeze not being where it was supposed to be. There was a steady stream of Civic's with 80K miles on them getting engines rebuilt....made for a lot of repeat customers. In the same time frame Audi had a major hiccup that they would not acknowledge or recall. As I remeber it was the trans slipping out of "park" into gear...could be wrong on the specific's, but the outcome was it just about killed off Audi being sold in the state's.

Now get the fine piece of engineering sold (honestly, I am impressed with Audi's) and get back to the B'cuda.
