I have a centerforce clutch and have not removed the overspring on the clutch pedal. Is this recommended?I,ve read to put quarters or washers in it to remove when clutch is depressed. How many of you have removed with the centerforce? How,s your clutch feel? Thanks for any advise.

I didnt try it with the spring in place but without it feels great.I had a Hayes
street/strip setup and this is way better, less effort.I used larger screw drivers to take it out, tapped them in between the coils to spread it.

dont want to resurrect an old thread or anything, but im wondering the same thing as I am considering the dual friction setup for t5 swap...I would imagine that if you dont remove the overcenter spring you wouldnt have the easy breasy pedal effort that they advertise with this setup...pettyblu, how is the pedal pressure in yours with the spring in? and you have both the df disc and pressure plate right?...Kinda sucks for me that i just put my overcenter spring back on and reinstalled the pedals because taking it off if its in the car seems like its gonna be one heluva PITA

You don't have to take it out, it's just going to require that extra pressure to depress the pedal, in stop and go traffic it can be quite the workout.

Taking the spring out is not that hard either, get someone or something to hold the pedal down, then stuff washer or what have you in the springs opening, so that when you release the pedal the spring will remain somewhat stretched open.

All the best,

Hey Giles,

i figured with the spring in there it would be a little bit of a pain on the street...your idea about removing the spring sounds like a good one...ill have to try it when the time comes if i end up with the df setup

This is the set-up I'm going for, I'll try it with the over center in first.
I'll remove it, if it requires too much force or peel the skin off my leg side stepping it, lol.

lol sounds like a plan...I remember you mentioning at moparfest last year that you babied her there because of the clutch...when do you plan on putting the new one in?

sounds good...keep us posted then on the spring issue..hope the install goes smoothly for you

I was wondering the same. I have a centerforce clutch and the overspring is still hooked up, man you really have to push hard.

I have them in two cars and set up both ways. With the spring in it is a little harder and I have a problem with the clutch pedal sticking to the floor. The centerforce guy said I needed to remove the spring because it over power the clutch at high rpm. The car with the spring removed works easliy biyt I have not driven the car since it's still in resto mode. I think I would just remove it.

That is the reason to remove it.

If you've never had a pedal stick to the floor on a powershift and bang the bejesus out of your limiter chip... it's quite fun. NOT! I still have the OS on my Dart with the centerforce, but, I also don't run the car real hard anymore.

The diaphram PP arms don't have the energy, by design, that a B&B or Long style Pressure plate has in the 3 finger arms pushing back on the throwout. It can cause the pedal to stick on the floor when at high RPM.

I've had the same problem with it occasionally sticking to the floor. I personally like the way the pedal feels with the over spring on it so I left it on.

when i called centerforce the guy told me the same thing about the pedal sticking, but not about the problem of high rpm shifting with the spring in...has anyone compared the pedal effort difference between having the spring in and then out?

It's realy not much different in pedal presssure with it in or out. You just have a overcenter type feel with it in.

Hey guys, thanks for the reply,s.I,ve been very busy with work, the 66 Dart, also getting my 06 Fusion safetied(sold)it,s gone!I got started on the o/c spring and got about 6 washers in it,still needs more and it,ll be off.I,m alsoputting some new nylon bushings in my Z-bar.I want my car shifting like a dream, when it comes time to race in ArmDrop Live!(Pinks All-out)next month!

take the friggin spring out!!!

i saw a guy missing shifts at the track last week - just put a centerforce in it - and didnt take the spring out!!

take the spring out - it feels like a toyota compared to the original B&B plate that came with the cars!

How high does the clutch peddle return?

True, true. I removed my over-center spring and I'm using a centerforce dual-friction. Easy pedal effort compared to the stock setup.

there is a spring pulling the fork back towards the Z bar under the car - the over center spring just takes the load off your foot after your over the center of travel. before that its actually harder to operate - and after it pulls it to the floor.

adjust it with no pre-load and break it in and your good to go.

Take the friggin spring out!!!

ok ok! lmao:toothy10:....makes sense to take it out, so i guess thats what i will be doing...atleast everyone chimed in this time about it8)

What Centerforce kit did you get? I have the Centerforce II and I left the spring in, shifts awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the Centerforce dual friction clutch and pressure plate, Hays 11" flywheel. I left the spring in and had problems with the pedal sticking to the floor, when it did come up it did not come all the way. So I removed it and problem solved! Clutch pedal returns completely and the pedal feel is way more positive, not too much heavier just more positive!

Defiantly remove it!
