I need a new carb. Several things are happening that involves a safety issue.
1967 Dodge Dart Auto, has a 1970 318 with a GM Quadrajet Carb rigged on it. (before I bought it) I guess the linkage was not exact and they had to move cable up 1-2" in the clamp and they clamped it on the black sleve coating on the cable and not the metal colar. Needless to say when it slips the throttle opens half way and you get to know the person in front of you alot better!
Anyway I just purchased an Edelbrock 1406 Carb 600 cfm square flange, elec choke, non-emission street/performance. Is this the right carb for a healthy daily driver? Also got the Edelbrock 1481 thro lever kit, and 8009 Thro cable adapt. Am I on the right track? Should I procede to the garage now or go back on another death ride to the parts store?
Does anyone have pictures of proper linkage set up so I can see springs on slide bar? HELP!

I hear crickets......chirp..................chirp.....................................

You have made a perfect selection with the Ede 600.

I actually like the manual choke better though. The manual choke 600 is jetted bigger for performance. But since this is on a daily driver, the electric choke will work good for you.

1481 is the correct lever assembly you need. Take the 8009 back,it is useless. Instead get the factory Chrysler kickdown bolt assembly (seen in picture). If you dont have one either someone here has one,E-bay,junkyard, etc.

Perfect choice for your 318,now get out there and start wrenching !!!!

PS: Make sure you use some sort of spacer/heat insulator. Edelbrocks get real hot sitting on top of a manifold without one.
Heat/fuel perculation, run on,etc will happen without one, when it gets hot.

Here is a pic of your linkage.

Here is some more linkage pics. This is a 1970 Dart 318. All factory. Just a little different than the other linkage pics. Not sure exactely what parts you have but this should get you real close.8)

Believe it or not, this is the same car.lol

Way cool you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do I use ported/timed vacume advance or manifold vac advance opening? The previous quadrajet rig set up, I checked when running and it had constant vac, but it was the wrong carb. What vac hole should I block off and what one to use for advance?
Johnny Dart, Where did you get your linkage & springs?
Anybody have sugestion on air cleaner set up? The 14" Edelbrock pro-flo #1221 would need $20.00 banjo fitting and hood clearance still looks close. Besides, you can't see my new carb with it on!

you are going to want to use the port on the left, that is ported. check out the flat base air cleaners from somebody like Mr. Gasket. also good choice on the 1406, I have one on my 318 and it works great.

I am still not being able to clamp throttle cable on the metal collar. Still @ 1" from collar. I think it's because of adapter plate I had to use. It added some on height.
Also looks like I will be needing rear kick down bracket like JohnnyDart's, and my slider bar is too long. Someone had cut & welded in 2 places. Does anyone sell the slider & brackets for this application? When I install everything the kick down will not let the carb go to full throttle.
Looks like I have old 273 version of the back bracket and will need to go to the style in the first pictures in the green car??? Any Advise??

Camd64, do you happen to have any pictures of your linkage? Right now the way everything is set up, it looks like I need a shorter slide bar or different bracket?

JohnnyDart, how did you get away without running the adapter plate for the spread bore / square bore? Adapter plate Edelbrock #2696.

Here ya go, I have the lokar setup. kinda pricey but I had the old twist rod on my '64.

The intake on the orange motor is a Edelbrock RPM. Carb bolts right up.

I'm working on my wifes 67 dart with 70 318 in it. Everything on this car was hacked or butchered. The sliding rod I have has been cut & welded in two places. They should have cut another inch out of it! Hacks. Anyway I would need one to fit a 70's set up. I think the one in the green car looks like what I would need to set up. Allthought after looking at the easy homemade bracket on the blue 318 I might go that route. If I come up blank at the mud pit junk yard today, I might head down to body shop to use the welder to take the other inch out of the slider. That would solve the kick down problem but I think I would still be having the problem of the cable not being clamped on metal collar. I think I need to raise bracket or use the one that mounts cable with vertical clamp and get a slider with adjustments to shorten slider.
slider too long & bracket too low and not foward enough!

Pics tell a thousand words, and it is all coming back to me now.

What you have is a 318 throttle cable bracket, which was designed for a 318,with a Carter bbd (2 bbl). This bracket holds the cable lower.

What you need is a cable bracket for a 4 bbl car. The arm sits higher. Take a look at the 2 pics I gave you carefully. I have seen this bracket on e-bay often, some guy is even re-popping them. Maybe someone on this site may be able to help you with one.

These things/parts take time to do it right. I think if your patient we can help.
Lets start by finding the correct 4 bbl bracket.

Just looked on E-bay: Item #350206420633 Small Block 4 bbl bracket.
This is what you need.

You can also go to the parts wanted on the site and ask for a small block (4bbl) bracket.
Someone here has to have one.

Just got back from tour of junk yards today. I have quite a few slider bars and I'm pretty sure I can piece one together. I'm off to Ebay for the bracket.
I looked at alot of mopars from 60's, 70's today with 4bbl and my "guide" was telling me he had 1 at his house but was saving it. His only one. Said it's from a 340 car 4bbl, and he needs it for his future fish. Thanks for everything! Still would like to know origin of that slick slider bar with the spring mounted in center!
Another thread with pictures of linkages shows a homemade one too!

Ok, Ebay wanted Approx $40.00 for bracket soooo......
Here is what I made from 2nd bracket like mine, 2 cuts, 1 trim, 1 grind, drilled.
Not binding, less than $10.00.
What do you think for temp untill I get a new job??:sign7:

Got it running finally. On test run the carb under load has a major vacume jet engine sound at mid range, med load, going to heavy load add high pitched whistle to the jet noise! Still no kick down. I guess I would have to adjust rod to tranny down and kick down sliding rod back a litle? What the heck is that noise it's making?????????
Anyone know what is going on with it? Please advise and Thank You Again!
Runs stonger than before and once it plains out at 70 everything quiets down except exhaust rumble.
