Aaron and I are looking for a solution for having to cut an opening in his Duster's hood to make clearance for the air cleaner. The 360 we dropped in has a Mopar M1 dual plane intake, 1" carb spacer, Holley 750 4bbl, and a Mopar Performance 14" open element air cleaner housing. The problem is that the air cleaner lid is contacting the hood. So, we need to cut a hole in the hood. No big deal, since we planned to have a six pack scoop anyway.

For those of you with functioning hood scoops, what did you do to seal off the air filter from the engine bay? We want to have a "tray" that sits around the carb and has a raised lip that seals against the underside of the hood. Anyone got pics of this?

Ask and ye shall recieve.

Can you give a brief description of what materials were used? Does the tray have a raised lip around the edge, or is the weatherstripping simply glued to a flat sheet? Thanks for the pics, that's a start for some ideas. Anyone with a round example?

This will be Aaron's daily driver, so the filter is a must. We tried a larger 4bbl air cleaner base, but its diameter isn't wide enough to provide what I think is sufficient air volume to feed the 750 cfm Holley.

You could always try a dropped filter base.Oldschool Cuda has one for sale now with a filter for $7.It,s worth a try,if you don,t want to cut your hood?

Would only work if the base is for a 13" element. Aaron has the Mopar Performance cast aluminum matching lid and valve covers. I'll check with Oldschool. In the meanwhile, I'm still looking for ideas. We would like to open up the hood for fresh air.

Thanks,
Jerry

Like .060 aluminum cut with a jig saw, use the moroso foam! it is somewhat heat and flame retardant no lip i just used 3M weatherstrip adhesive to glue it on, drop base with k&n top, a couple stand offs. made a big difference!!

:worthles:

Let's see what ya got.

My Duster has the fiberglass six pack hood and 14" x 4" Jegs element. No shortage of fresh air with this combo with a high rise manifold and 1" spacer postioning the air cleaner right in the opening.

Pldover,

We want to put one of those on our car but the vendor says..even with the air filters in place..that they cannot be used in bad weather like fog otr rain. What I don't understand is the orginal shaker hood what the same thing..

BTW, my son loves the look of your car.

With the large air cleaner you are going to find that it actually hits the rear cross support. It will clear the hood sheet metal (the triangle shaped area in the middle of the hood). For it to fit you are going to have to almost completely remove the support. Nice as that big air cleaner looks you are going to have to go smaller unless you want the middle of the back part of the hood flapping in the breeze. I have a similiar setup on my engine although it EFI and wound up using a 9 inch cleaner and then dinging the cross support for it to clear.
