Certain parts of the US have fewer cars, more potential buyers so supply and demand drives up the price. Cars in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, etc tend to be rusted out, cars in the South and West tend to be in better condition and there are more of them (they didn't rust out) so a car that sells for $800 in Arizona would have an asking price of at least $1600 in Michigan.
