My shifter mechanism seems to bind up and there is no linkage attached at the moment. I would think it would move freely with out the linkage ? Are these easily service or do I need to send it out or replace it.

You could try lubing it. Helped mine out a lot. If you send it out to Hurst they are going to want like 200-300 bucks to rebuild the thing. I think I hered you can get a rebuild kit on e bay.

Take it apart, be careful to keep track of what goes where. Clean it, lube it with some grease, and reassemble. If you do it carefully, it's really easy.

The shifter levers MUST be returned to their neutral position before you can move the shifter through the gate (to 3-4 position).

My vertical gate came with a "L" shaped pin about 3/16 thick that I install in a hole in the side of the shifter body to hold it in neutral so I can set it up properly.

hi, what type hurst shifter? vert gate or super shifter 3? I sent my super shifter 3 in , had it rebuilt, cost me $65 . that was bout 4 years ago. you can tear it down and lube it yourself. I'd check to see if you have a bolt soo tight it binds it up first .just food for thought.

IIRC it's the linkage that hold the shifter in adjustment for smooth shifting, I'd put the linkage on and try it before I pulled it apart.
