Fluid Type??

below are pictures of a 70 833 23 spline tranny with 112,000 miles on it, behind a 383 magnum motor, it is my fathers car, he bought it new, and put the miles on it doing just about everything, drag racing, speed shifting as much as possible, towing a camper etc...


here are the syncros, with atf thier whole life... they went back in


here are the gears, they went back in also...




the 1-2 fork was worn, probably from banging gears for so long... and needed to be replaced while it was open..


I can only speak from my experience, but ATF went back in the tranny, and all that was replaced was gaskets, bearings, and forks...


just food for thought - in the mid 70's he had the clutch replaced at the dealer, they put gear oil in the tranny , and he could not get it in gear during cold mornings, and was alot harder to speed shift...

this is how he drives it every time he has it out, and it has lasted 112,000 miles so far...
