XV Motorsports A Body Rad Support

-
Once set in place equally on both sides, weld the support to the bottom of the rails. I used the hole just behind the support to make sure its straight. Many of the holes in the frame of our cars were put there for measuring purposes.

In order to pick up the center latch support, I cut a piece of plate and drilled the 2 holes like the original. Bolt in place and tack, so it fits, then finish the weld.

Once the center is done, there are two more tabs on the 70-72s you will need to pick up. I cut those sections out of the original, then made some extensions to bring it up to where it would meet the valence. This can be done with flat plate for a neater appearance, but this material was handy for me.

Is anyone here using the XV seat belts? I've been thinking about getting a set of those.

We have a set in the scamp they seam to work fairly well. One of the xv logos fell off the button on the release though.

Got to love the comments. Nobody is forcing you or anyone else to buy anything. I will be posting the pix when I am done with my install. However, going forward, I will not be posting or contibuting to the board.

Come on, man... Some of us here want everyone to get along and contribute

Since I need clearance for my stock style rad. I welded on the included extensions.

does it look like it will make any clearance issues? Or would your bumper hit before the rad support?

Im interested to see how your car will handle now. Also if it hits any of those parking bumpers or bottom out on the driveway dips.

Nice job with it! can't wait to see it with everything back on and at ride height! =P~

Hey GMachine, just curious what year FR500's you are running, and are you using a stock length rear? Another question on the XV side. I'm going to be ordering a set of shoulder belt plates & bolts within the next week and I want to know if they come with any sort of template or tools of where to locate them on the car? Thanks man, you do have a sweet ride.

By the way, about how long did it take you to install the lower rad support? That was also on my list to by and I keep going back and forth on it.

nice! didn't stick out as much as i would think

how is the test drive?

It didn't stick out as much as I thought it would, but the spoiler covers most of it. No test drive yet, as I am doing other things for a bit.

The FR500s are a mix front to rear and the fronts are narrowed. Rear axle is stock A body 8 3/4. Rear is 18 x 9 5.95 BS, Front is 18 x 8 5.42" BS.

XV tabs for the belts are just nut plates. No specific instructions.

I got a set too, I like them. They don't release the best when you are putting them on, but they definitely make me feel safe.

XV only had the EBody stuff when I started my Duster. So we made our own.

Then boxed it in after.

I did run into clearence issues with the radiator ( i have a be cool aluminum) but I was able to notch the box for the petcock. Sorry no pics yet.

I also really liked the look of their under fender braces they had for ebody, so my dad made something like those too.

I have pics of engine compartment brace on the way.

I have nothing against XV, the parts just weren't available at the time, and my dad loves to build.

woow looks nice and clean :thumbrig:

GMachine, looks nice and thanks for the pics and the writeup. Keep us posted on how it handles. Oddio, you're going to have one nice ride. Must be nice to have a dad that loves to fabricate. Thanks to everyone who shows off their rides and efforts. It's great to see several different ways to get the job done.

Car is up and running, and I have to say I am always impressed with the results any type of chassis stiffening makes. Especially on my own car, where this was the only change made. I've had this car 26 years, and it is very clear that this part really reduces creaks in the front end of the car. Since I've had 1.04 t bars for 15+ years, I am well aware of the toll it takes on the unibody. A positive unibody reinforcement for any A body!
