I have a dumb thermostat question. When installing a new thermostat do you put the thermostat in first, then the gasket, then the housing or is it gasket first then the thermostat?

Thanks

I always put gasket on intake, then thermostat and then the husg, because the thermostat sets in the recess of the husg. Don't know if that is correct or not, but it is my way.

We have a winner. The neck should be recessed a little in most applications.

Oh boy ! What did I win ?? I never win anything. Just glad to help. Seems like I'm always asking for help and never seem to be able to help anyone else out. And JM383 don't be afraid to ask. The only dumb question is the question that no one ever asks.

The first thing you should do to a new thermo is check it in a pot of boiling water to see if it opens as soon as you drop it in. Then install as directed if it's good.
My $.02, Good Luck!
