I'm rebuilding a '65 273 and can't seem to find anything with timing marks on it. The timing chain cover doesn't have anything. Any one have an idea of what I need to look for? I bought a whole engine without a water pump and carb but it did have a timing cover. There is no evidence of ever having timing marks attached and neither do the 2 on e-bay. I've disassembled, cleaned it up and am now ready for assembly after appropriate machining, etc.
Anyone out there have an idea??

hi, the 273 had a metal timing tag fastened to the two bottom water pump bolts. it sat over the right hand side of the dampner. a timing cover from a 68-69 318/340 already has the timing marks cast into the cover on the right side. you can make a metal tab also. just food for thought.

I had to fab up a timimg tab for my 273. The stock timing tab which is bolted to the cover won't work with a later water pump which the pump outlet is located on the same side.
