Yes you have to change the housing tube ends for the cup design for use with either the standard threaded adjuster or install green bearings. Watch you got there is a pre 65 657 rear end housing with a 741 pumpkin which you already figured. The problem is that the 657 rear uses shims to set the axle end play. I'd pull her all apart, measure it all up and figure out exactly what you got. Oh ya, the brake components and axles are scrap.
