The 340 block is really not as weak as some people think, it was the engine of choice until they started to become extinct in the mid/late 80's you just need to take the correct steps when choosing parts and not take short cuts on the machine work, which is basically the same rules with any build.

I don't have my specifics in front of me but here is a quick run down of my engine.
340 block
Hugues girdle with .005 thousands pre-load
ARP studs.
Eagle 4" crank
Eagle H beam rods
JE pistons w/8.5-1 (nice pistons but they can't read an order form and their customer service sucks)
Comp 578 lift solid roller cam
65 cc Edlebrock heads mildly ported with bigger springs.
Crane gold race roller rockers
BDS 671 over driven 3%
Final comp 12.4-1
Demon 750 blower carbs
MSD ignition
