Hello,

I joined this site a while ago but have been super busy and havent had a chance to work on the dart at all but its getting into fall and i would like to have it driving soon.

Its a 1965 Dodge Dart GT with a 225 slant six with a 1brl Carter BBS i believe carb.

My problem is that the float for the carb which is made of copper? is leaking and floods the carb out. I am having trouble finding a replacement. I dont know if i want another one of the same kind or if i want to get a rubber or cork one, or whatever is available. I rebuilt the carb last summer but it didnt have a replacement float in the kit.

Where can i find a float? all my local part stores cant seem to find one. Maybe one of you fine people here has a part number for me or maybe a website for parts.

Thanks for reading my long post and any help you can offer.

welcome:) i would think checker or somewhere could get one but idk. if it is copper u can solder it and fix it when you get all the fuel out. u just cant make it to heavy or it wont work

There are some REALLY good manuals and training videos at the top of the engine section (sticky's) of slantsix.org.

If the float (brass) has developed a leak and sunk, you need to replace it. If it has sunk, it will be full of fuel, and you should be able to see the crack where the fuel got in. If there is no fuel inside the float (shake it and listen for the slosh) your problem lies elsewhere.

As for soldering a crack in a brass float, fuhgettaboutit. After you are positive you have let all the fuel inside evaporate, the second you play the torch on the crack you'll hear a remarkably loud "POP" and the little crack will become a wide open split that can never be repaired. Ask me how I know this!!!

Do we know for certain that the float is, in fact, cracked... and has become a sinker?

I have had the experience of the tiniest bit of crap make it through the filter, and get stuck in the needle and seat... thereby preventing the the needle from seating... engine won't idle... floods and dies.

Don't even need to take the carb apart to check that.

Bottom line on the float... if it's cracked... it's probably toast.

Well since i just rebuilt the carb im pretty sure it there is nothing in it. That and when you shake the float you can hear fluid inside of it sloshing around.

I have checked a few places and will need to special order one from shucks.
