Im bringing my motorcycle to the local 1/8 mile track to see what I can do. Its a 1982 yamaha vision with a 550 V-twin. What do you think she will run? Also any idea on rear tire pressure?

thanks

I'm thinking 13.5 with a good rider. Don't drop the pressure on that tire as it's tubeless and relies on pressure to keep the bead seated. We want to see you here tomorrow. :) Plus the rear will get "squirmy". Just heat it up good and don't wait to stage, push your opponent and make him look bad. Be the first to pre-stage, it makes you in control. Keep the front tire out of the water and back into it. If the track is dirty do a dry hop to get the tire clean if your clutch can stand it, plus if done right, it intimidates the heck out of your opponent.

Line up on the rubber on the track from the cars, it's your friend even though it looks slick. Worry about you, not your opponent and leave after the last yellow is full bright. Bikes react way faster than cars off the line. Know your clutch and stage rpm. If this is your first time at the track, gradually up your RPM and clutch release until you can maximize both. It's a learning experience.

I have more for you, but let me know how it goes and ask me questions. Last time I raced at Bandimere I saw a rider get paralyzed on a bike he was not ready for. Just be cool and be safe, no jitters allowed.

well I just got back from the track. Funny thing is I WON!!! It was crazy, my best run was a 9.79 with a .501 reaction time ( .001 away from being perfect). My dial in was 9.75, so it was close. It was bracket racing so I managed to beat all the sleds and 600's. Most guys were running 6.90-8.00, but my old turd of a bike beat everything. I launched the bike at 5,000 Rpm and hauled from there.

I still cant believe i WON!!

What a great feeling! Got a pic of the trophy?

oh you were running 1/8 mile?

Yeah, that threw me too. :)

440 valiant, my guesstimates were for the quarter mile.

I am not reading any other post and say if you can get a grip on spin out of the hole that bike will run a 8.0 flat.... if I was on it, I had a 550K Honda that would eat up big block 8.0 8.50 0n the street

Thants a very good day
I was thinking 1/8 mile too.

Dang RC you liked the bikes too

I had a 81 Honda 550K with a Kit and had a blast !!!

Nice job! pretty good times for an old 550 vision, gotta love racing brackets win goes to the better driver.:-D

Those little Hondas would scream! My KZ 650 I used to race would pull a 12.5 at sea level and a 13.2 up here at Bandimere. I had angle milled the head, was running an open Kerker exhaust, changed the gearing a bit, ported the head, added a Dyna III ignition with Andrews coils and KZ 750 cams. Pistons and carbs were stock. :)

How much fun was that? lol!

Most fun I have had in a while. They want me to go back in a few weeks to the next one. Any ideas on how to get the bike a little faster? Im looking to get below 9.50's.:read2:
