I wondered about that. I have my brakes totally rebuilt on the 7 1/4 so if this works I can simply switch over to the 8 3/4.
I didn't know if they would match and bolt up or not.
i had both axles in my garage and was looking and decided to try, and it just so happened to work. I've had the swap done for a few months now and haven't had a problem.
