Hi, I have a 73' Duster that is ready for a New roll cage, I have the bolt-on subframe connectors and plan on welding them in. I was wondering if anyone could tell me ...How many point cage should I use for like a 500 HP car? It will be a street/strip 360, Manual reverse pattern 727 trans. 8 3/4" 4.56 rear Strange axles. I recently purchased a 72 Duster that supposedly ran 12.20 on street tires. I'll be swapping all the goodies into the rust free 73' (after lots o work) I'm thinking 8 point ??? From Autoweld Chassis ...... I need input before I buy,
Thanks for sharing , Eric

An 8pt. will be all you need for now. A cage is manditory for anything under 10 seconds. Unless the floor and or trans tunnel has been heavily modified; ie aluminum.

8 point for 11.99 and faster, If you plan on going much faster in the future (9.99 or faster) or just want the extra safety you may want to go with a 10 or 12 point now so you dnt have to redo it all later.

Thanks, this car will surely need the 10 pt then, it's already running 12.20 1/4 on cheap street tires and stock frame

hi, do your self a favor, buy a NHRA rule book. then you what requirements you need to meet. 11.49 is the break for a roll bar. not 11.99. another thing, a roll cage will require a window net. to run 9.99, you have to have a certified chassis. has to be recertified every three years. roll cage is for 10.99 and faster, If you have a stock unaltered body, then a roll bar is legal.
also, to run 9;s have to take a FAA physical, have a competion license.

Well, I'm going with the 10 pt cage and subframe connectors (ok I'll look at the price difference for a 12). Do ya really think I can pass the 10.99 mark? With a good chassis setup? It's a 360 , it spins 8,000 rpm, 4200 stall, manual valve 727, 4:11's Can I get a full sec from a good chassis? Best of 12.20 (not verified... But dying too try !) And if I ever pass 9.99 I'll take my trophy n car show it ..lol

An FAA License? (As in Aviation???) Which One ? Powerplant , Airframe or Avionics :) And If I gotta have that license I'm bolting a Jet engine on the roof for a power adder :) After all it's factored by Rear wheel HP.. Jets dont count ..lol I can Fly with 2 wheels on the ground

I didn't say FAA license, you have to take same FAA physical as a pilot has to take! I don't think you'll go in the 9 sec zone either! have doubts on 10;s also. to be legal for drag racing, is serious business. If the roll bar or cage is not installed or done correctly, the tech guys will reject you. next time you show back up ,they will nit pick the car. that's how it is done! something to think about.

11.49 is a newer rule that is actually for newer cars like Vipers and Vettes that will run 11.99 with a few bolt ons. Most tracks will wont to see a bar at 11.99 if your car is older.

Plus at 11.99 your gonna be running in the 115mph range, A cage is a good idea. :thumblef:
