Does anyone know of a good high flow water pump out there that has the radiator hose outlet on the drivers side? I just had a 416 c.i stroker built at SPEEDOMOTIVE and they installed a neew EDELBROCK water pump but the outlet is on the wrong side to match up to my BE Cool radiator, also I had to buy a new (good used) timing cover with the timing marks on the passenger side since apparently they don't make a replacement cover for '69 and older motors...please help. :wack:

I had the same problem after a rebuild. New rad as well? Anyways, depending on what you would rather do. I took my rad to a (rad shop) and they moved my outlet to the other side for 50.00. Did a real good job and retested. It was well worth it for me.
Just a thought :salut:

originally up to 69, all sb water pumps were on drivers side and cast iron. 70 and up is on the pass side and aluminum. just match the water pump to the radiator. my 68 has a 72 abody rad with my 360.

I think I am going to keep the 70-up style water pump and timing cover, I will try and see if I can get my radiator changed over...it sucks because it is a brand new BE COOL radiator. As far as the power steering I will have to bolt it up and see if it works, I may have to scrounge for 70 style mounts as well. I just hope it doesn't block the timing marks.

is your timing cover right for that w/p? 69 and down had a separate tab that mounts to the timing cover and 70 and up is cast into it. call BE COOL or wherever you got it and see if you can exchange for the right one and just pay shipping, it may be cheaper than getting the outlet moved.

Just another little tip; '89 Gran Fury (cop car only that year) water pumps flow like rivers :thumblef: A few years back a buddy converted his Dart to a 360 and it ran rather warm in traffic- ordered up one of those big shaft, 8 or 10 blade impeller water pumps, problem solved

Actually the timing tab on '69 and down is cast in as well just on the other side, I would just use my old cover and a cast iron pump but my cover is corroded beyond reusing it. As for exchanging the radiator I got a really good deal on it ($359.00 inc shiping) from a hotrod shop on ebay. I am going to ask the question about moving the inlet, but I am also considering the long flex line. I will try the flex line, but at $70 or more the hose location move may be cheaper. So many issues so little time....

If you have a crossflow you'll have to move both locations (inlet, outlet) otherwise you will only have a coolant holding tank and not a radiator. I got my flexline from the online auction site and I think cost was~ $50 shipped for a 48" kit.

I have a 340 in my 69 B-Cuda. The water pump I have on it is the 69 style "cast iron" type with the outlet on the diver side. It is a Miloden #16251. It is a hi volume pump. It has the large impeller shaft and bearings. It is said to give 30% more in coolant flow if used with a hi flow t-stat.

Timming marks on 69 and older LA engines Are on the pass side, and they are not on the housing, they are a little tab that is bolted on the water pump. They read from -10* to +10*. I have a bunch of these tabs, if you need one. You can pick up timming covers at any swap meet real resonable, I seen some last weekend at a swap for $20.00.

I am swapping my 69 to an alumiium rad and havn't been able to find an upper rad hose with the outlet on the rads pass side, do you know of any P/Ns that would fit this. I have a "Northen Radiator", they make nice alumimum Rads.

I would think twice about those fancy looking flex rad hoses, I have heard of them "blowing off" at the wrong time, like when you are under the hood tinkering, Be Carefull of those. stop and think, a 1 3/4 in hose on a 1 1/2 in outlet,???. Not me.

When I changed from 318 to 340 I wanted to keep the 69 and older water pump, so I didn't have to change all my pulleys. The Miloden pumps hold up real well, I have one on my 67 also.

I have a housing that has the timing tab cast in on the passenger side. I not saying that the bolt on tab is wrong I am saying that there is some cast timing tabs also. Maybe different engine plants used different vendors for the timing covers that's why there is both styles. I can say I have never seen a bolt on tab although I do have a timing cover that does not have a tab on either side. I was wondering why, it must be the cover that used the bolt on tab.

Thats right, covers with no timming tabs cast in them, were from the earlier (69 and older) years to my nowledge.
The bolt on tabs use two pump bolts.

Any one no what kind of upper hose I need with the rad out let on the pass side, ????.

If you mean like this I told the parts guy I wanted a hose for a '71 Duster, Demon, Etc with a V8. My car is actually a '65 Valiant.

Thats the set up I have now (drivers side outlet on rad). I need a hose with the rad outlet on the pass side ( buy your alternator).
Any one have any P/Ns for a hose like that, ???.

B'Cuda Dave,
Thanks for the info, but I agree that the 69 front covers have the timing marks cast in, I have no less than 5 covers and they are all cast in. I have actually never seen the tab type you are talking about, that may be an even older setup, not sure but I would like to see a picture.
As far as the rad hose, ask the takes your off and go to the parts store and see if they will let you look through the wall of hoses and find the "opposite" one you need then you can get the number for future reference. Thanks again for the info.
As far as keeoing the same pullies and all of that not an option, I had the motor built and I am not taking it apart to change back, so I am going with the MARCH serpentine system with new mounts and all.

I went to the local NAPA store and picked one, did a little triming and had a hose. Sorry I just peeled the label off and threw it away. Otherwise I would have a number for you.
