'66 Barracuda Formula S
I recently bought this '66 Formula S after the wife said I could get it. I thought about it for a long time and didn't really have the cash but the seller was willing to take all of the money I could get my hands on. I hope he's happy with the deal, it is out of his way and he doesn't need to store it this winter.
I know you guys like pictures and I only have a few from when I bought it and some didn't come out like the all important engine compartment pics. I know the stripe is funny but overall I like the car a lot.
This car is very solid, runs and has a nice interior, it’s not perfect but overall it is nice with a lot of positive aspects. Appearance wise it looks decent but it is not what I would call national show quality. The previous owner purchased it from an eBay auction for $8,400 just three years ago and it then sat in his garage until I bought it this fall. What I think is cool is that this car has NOT been heavily modified and it still has the 273 “Commando” engine which would I assume is the original one, the 14” Formula S hub caps, the Commando exhaust resonator with the chrome tip and an 8 ¾” rear axle with sure grip.
The interior is in very presentable condition, the drivers seat does have a small tear in the cover and there is some significant wear in the carpet on the passenger side. The dash pad is in good shape but the tach does not function. The headliner has some seams coming undone but a new black headliner made by Leendary was included with the car. I'm not sure about replacing the headliner, it now has a white one and I'm not sure how a black one would look.
The car does seem really solid, the doors open and close well plus the floor seems sturdy, underneath it looks prety clean. It has been repainted, from 15 feet away its ok but the paint is a bit weak, I was planning on using the car as is but really fresh paint would help the appearance, the color could be a bit brighter and there are some chips – basically the paint is not great but not too bad either. The previous owner thought the car or parts of it were originally gold, I can see it on the inside of the hood in some small places so it may have been replaced at some point or possibly the hood repainted. The trim is also decent, it’s not national show quality but it does present itself well for being 40 years old. The grill looks good and the aluminum head light bezels are not dinged up as they are often found on these cars. The odometer reads 73,000 miles - I don’t know if this is actual mileage or not, it’s possibly the actual mileage but we’ll never really know. This car has not been driven in at least four years so I'm going to have it checked so I can licesne it and drive it.
I had a really nice garage to store it during the winter for only $20 a month, I've used this garage the last five years for stuff like jet skis, my buddies boat and a Mopar. But the garage owner lost his job, is moving to Tennesse and sold the house with the garage I used to store my stuff. So I'm not sure where this will be this winter - hopefully not out in the Michigan weather.
