ABodyBetty's new baby comes home!!!

-
Okay here goes,
I now call my car Two Scoop's why I belong to some other Mopar groups and one of the guys told me it reminded him of Raisin_Bran hence Two Scoop's. Oh well that's niether here nor there, back to the orginally scheduled program, which is kickdown linkage. Well the 225 1bbl linkage totally diffrent than 2bbl linkage, how 1bbl linage works from behind the carb towards the firewall and the 2bbl linkage works from the side (driver side of carb). So I find a 2bbl manifold and think cool I'm set got a manifold two carbs why wrong 2bbl carb first time must had been a 360 in the pick and pull that I got it off of, so had to get one from a 318 car. Anyway got it all on working so took it out WOW why did it shift so quick into 3rd gear? asked my self, got back home. Hmmmm okay where do I hook this rod up to, I can't seem to, so I pull it back some and zip tie it to I think power steering lines. So get back in go test drive still a little quick in shifting so adjust it some more GREAT shifts like it used to. Fast forward meet some people on the the groups I joined made good friends with one told him what I did and he says better not drive the car anymore till you get the corrct kickdown linkage you'll burn the trans up.......well guess what yep burned it up after finding and installing a supersix kickdown linkage from ebay my first and only purchase. Well he was right only lasted about one to two Months and it quit. So if you go 2bbl get Manifold, Carb, Kickdown linkage, and air cleaner which I still need I have a cheesy one on it rite now.

11.13.9 Update with pics.

So cleaned, wire wheel, primed, painted, 1bbl intake, Fern's old one, now her new one!
One thing led to another! LOL!! It always does!!!! Wanted to paint engine today, HA HA SEE PICS!
It all "started" with the starter............HAHAHAHHAHHhahahahahhaLOL!!!
Wanted to get it out of the way, so I can paint engine, remember??
That led to fuel line, AC broke, winter here, take it off so I can finally see and adjust the power steering belt, To take off AC brackets, that led to pullys, Fan, radiator, cut rusty tranny lines, etc, etc, etc, BLAH BLAH BLAH! Everything is rusty It either breaks or I cut it, HACK!!
LMAO!!!!
Anyway, will be ready to paint motor in the AM.
Yard Dawg took new manifolds back up to his house to split for me.
Looks like radiator been leaking too!
Might as well put on water pump while I'm here........ JEZZZZ!
Tomarrow last 65 degree day then 6 days of 50 and rain. Hope someone comes by to help me push it back in the garage!!

OH Dinners ready, post pics in a few mins!

Thanks for filling me in. We ended up with an egr 1 bbl 75, just like what was on there and were using original intake now. Try to go to super 6 in summer.
Stop by anytime & thanks for the shoutout!

and on, and on................................

Should be a good day today.
Picking up new water pump this AM. I'm down this far, better to do it now before paint & WINTER!!!
Might go have the Rad pressure tested next week while it's out. Looked like someone dumped some Barrs in it, gray & gooey, yuk!
Ordering new belts & hoses today. Nothing wrong with old ones but no spring in bottom and flex on top. Keep old ones in trunk for spares.
Will be scrubbing/degreasing the pass side of engine & front where timing cover is.
Today we will also be prepping, priming, painting; Fan, pulleys, both sides of core support, back of front bumper, brackets, etc.
Might go on a bead blast run.
Yard Dawg might be helping me romove both outer manifold studs on head (broke off) and he's going to give back my new exhaust manifold. If he does we will be totally going on a bead blast mission!
Taking out rest of AC system under hood area for winter repairs.
Will also be cleaning & painting rad. frame.
Well, see ya for now & stop by later this evening & see how far I got or if I collapsed!!:happy2:

Not alot to say. Ran out of daylight. Have to go back out to clean everything up & get ready for tomarrow.
Not alot of funny stuff tonight, sorry, too busy!!
Lay your peepers on the pics though!!!
Have a great evening all!!!:thumbrig:

Thanks Dreno!
I needed an extra hand today and thought of Homecloned! LOL!!
His finger nails look alot cleaner than mine! I just came in from garage! LOL:smilebox:

Amen brother, you can never have to many.

I love pizza on the grill and a splash of Corona. :drinkers: :headbang:

That was when ABodyBetty hailed me in from the driveway for food. I came in, was washing my hands, and thought boy I sure could use an extra few of these! Then figured I better get my funny pic of the day or everybody would be dissapointed.
Just shot the pic real quick of lunch and beer. Didn't think of you till editing & prepping pics for thread!
No ill will to ya but thought it was real funny when it popped up on screen, thought "Homecloned" would get a kick out of this pic!:smilebox:

Have a good one today!!

Looking good, I was told to make sure the area is good and flat where the intake and exhaust go to the head, I had mine checked yesterday and all is good Use a Aussie, or Remflex exhaust/intake gasket and not this felpro gasket.
to assure a good seal , and no sealer on these gasket's

This is the Fel-pro gasket that I was told not to use, 10hft lbs and no more in the nuts.

Sorry Mike so long to get back to ya.....
Whats wrong with the felpro???
Used one on sons 69 & doin fine 2 years now!
Also that is the one I already have to go on. I wouldn't think it would be a problem if I install clean & right. Just watch procedures of tightening order & torqes. Sides, anythings an improvement over 1/8" gap between the manifold plate!!! LOL!!
I'll probibly have to try my luck with what I have. No $ for better & going to super 6 for summer, hopefully.
Anyway, what's the poop on the bad felpro press? Haven't heard......8)

I don't feel like I got enough done today!
Tried to do the 2 broken manifold studs my self, what a joke!! Guess I'll have to keep waiting for a friend to come over and helicoil for me. Hope someone shows up soon, I need to push it into the garage before all the rain comes in for the week!
I got the front one out with a small propane torch & pipe wrench with cheater bar 2' long.
Broke an easyout off in the back one!!!
I HATE MACHANICAL WORK!!! IT SUCKS, and I'm terrible at it!!!
Touched up motor paint.
Prepped & primed engine bay. Painted too!
Still working on the rest of it!
I wish I could get some help out here!!!
Oh well........................8)

E Z outs are a very HARD steel. You will need a good hardened bit to drill it out.

Next time just drill out the soft steel bolt and don't risk breaking the easy out. Remember HeliCoils are your friend easy outs are not. Just be glad you didn't break the EZ out off in Aluminum, Then the bit just walks off and drills out the Aluminum. You will want to try and center punch the EZ out to get the bit started straight. Good luck I hate small EZ outs.

Great thread as well.

Just my .02

Hey Cope,
Thanks for the shout out!
I will remember that. I had easyouts but no helicash till Tuesday!
I,ve never done them. I've watched before though.
Had a buddie of mine was supposed to do the 2 broken studs, but I just got tired of waiting.
I should have waited.
But am sorta used to people not showing up, and sense it has been 10 days (Taken off 11.5.9 in this thread) now that we have had these off, I just felt, OK, it's time, even if I "F" it up! I'm not waiting on anyone else any longer!
So I got one out now and I need to buy a hardened bit and a helicoil kit??
Is there a tool for install? Anything I need to be aware of?
Well, come Tuesdays mail, I'll be off to the bank & helistore!
Yeah, I may have broke the easy out, but I got the front one out, and thats the one I originally broke. The back was broke when I got it! LOL!!!
That's where I left it for today!!!
Have a good one Cope and thanks for givin me the heads up, I know nothing about mechanics but love to paint!!:love7:

No worries!

Any hardware store should sell hardened bits, or Colbalt steel?... Even a good dremmel bit will get it out.

The heli coil will come with everything you need for install besides the tap. Depending on the depth of the hole I would assume you need a "Bottoming Tap" Those are the ones with the flat tip, It will cut threads to the bottom of the hole. Once drilled just insert the Helicoil with RED lock tight, Don't forget to clean the hole with starting fluid or cab cleaner or the locktight is useless.

Drill the hole as straight and square as you can get it, but don't worry if it's off a little bit, It's just an exhaust stud and you can open the hole in the manifold to fit the new stud if it's not completely straight.

If you were closer to me I'd lend ya a hand, But I'd have to charge you some of that pizza and Corona!!

Have a great night and good luck with the removal.

EDIT if you think about it, You need to drill the broken bolt nice and straight to use an EZ out, Why not just drill out the bolt? ONe more thing I like about Heli coils are when installed in Aluminum they INCREASE the strength of the threads, Also if you do F them up most time you can just go up a size in HeliColi and drill out the other side to match the larger stud or bolt.

That engines looking great. Was out riding around today and cam across 3 73 & up valiants and a dart in this color I think it was. All 4 doors. They all looked good for 4 doors. Almost to good to be parted out. We saw them as parts cars. Keep up the nice work.
