Working on Fern our 75 dart /6 auto ac power steering pump.
I believe the one with the filler neck is Federal???
How do you take off the pulley for swapping in a new pump? It showing 4 different specialized tools in the shop manual!
Can't use a wheel puller?
How do you guys get the pullies off when you're doing a new power steering pump swap??
Why can't you just get one with a pulley already on there?, sense mine is rusty anyway??
Please advise & Thanks!8)

i had to buy the tool for that years ago, believe it is just called a pulley puller, mine also reinstalls. might want to check with toolmanmike....

A local parts store may loan or rent a puller to you......or maybe the yard dawg has one?

The Federal pump will have a bolt hole in the shaft and you can use a bolt and washer to pull the pulley on. I actually screwed a longer bolt with a washer and nut into the pump and used the nut to pull the pulley on as I wanted to make sure I did not mess up the threads in the pump shaft. If you have the pump without a hole in the pump shaft, you have a Thompson pump and all of the rebuilt units I have seen have the pulley attached when you get it. If not you have to pull the pump out of the casing to press the pulley on, similar to changing an alternator pulley. Just used a three arm puller to get on the groove around the pulley and a bolt in the end of the shaft with a dimple to keep the puller centered and heat and hammer to free up.
