will J heads work on a 318? And many many more questions.

I don't know what the weather is like where you live, but here, the carb ices up and it floods your engine to the point of dying on high idle..... But then again, I live in a place where 90% Humidity and -20 is kinda normal. For your average lower 48 mildish winter, no heat crossover would be fine I guess. I just start my truck for like five minutes, then shut it off for a minute or so, then it heatsoaks the carb, and it is fine from then. Headers help the engine compartment temp a lot too, and an electric/viscous fan........

Well, you certainly have a very good point there. I've seen ice on a carb only once. -20's around here just don't happen in the worst winter conditions. Except that one winter a few years back, Freak winter cold spell for a couple of weeks. Working nights outside really sucked then. I think that was the only week(s) I wished I moved into the work places shop. But that's 50 miles away. Thphhhhhhhh!

For the most part, even if the car is insured during the winter, it's not really out and running. The daily driver, is a carbed car, is has the heat crossover and heat stove from the header hooked up. It doesn't make anysense any other way really. Cold mornings in the teens and 20's will have the car taking a few to warm up, no sense deleating items that will prolong that. Not on the main car used every day no matter what it's like outside.
