whats bad about the mr gasket style? is this the same bro with the 318? hes gonna have one heck of a blast in that thing man!

Yeap, same brother and we're looking forward to pounding on it lol. The only thing I don't like about the Mr. Gasket style is that the actual workings of it that sit inside your tunnel are bigger and I think the old school HURST is more simple, we fit his into a very slightly modified stock 4spd tunnel we swapped in out of a Duster, no big issue really just personal preference

driving v-gate trannys on the street is hella cool man! people say its impractical and all, but theres definatly a cool factor to it...im honestly thinking of going to an old school faceplated or slick shifted a833 when my t5 craps out and sticking a v-gate on it...those old trannys are pretty damn tough and can take quite the beating

I'm suprised your T5 has lasted more than 10 minutes lol they're definently not known for their ability to handle power. The 833's are impressive, my dad's got an original A body slick shift hemi trans (like 68 dart or cuda) and he'd like to run it on the street, the only problem with the slick shifts is that you can't downshift unless you are at a dead stop, so imagine when you gotta stop for a red that goes green, Dammit! edit: my uncle's been using his V-gate in his Falcon on the street for over 30yrs, he says it's not hard, you just get a few strong fingers lol

yea i know, the t5 was a stepping stone to a tko for me since my bellhousing is drilled for both...i havent even driven the t5 yet, but i dont plan to go easy, so i know its a ticking time bomb lol...i heard that passon has a slick shifted gearset that is street/strip compatible...im thinking though now of just going to the 4 speed with the low gearset (3.09 first) after the t5 breaks, but its all up in the air since i gotta break it first...apparently there are a few tricks to ease your fingers for street driving a v-gate, like cutting the spring for the gate so its easier to pull up on...id like to know how much power an 833 can take (23 spline and 18 spline versions) before i go to one

Don't go 3.09 first gear unless you have 2.90's or higher, its like having a truck tranny.

now, does anyone have pics of a vertigate, and a bench seat? or am I going to have to make a new reverse lever, and possibly move it forward?

If you can afford it Long makes an excellant V gate, about $600 or so. Go to the Jerico site for info.

i dont wanna hijack but i have a mr. gasket one alot like all these (idk the name tho) and i need a boot for it. anyone make them new? or anyone have one they would sell with out the shifter? thanks tyler o pm me if you do

Where my bro's v-gate ended up sitting I don't think it would work with a bench in the stock location, it looks like it would catch your seat on 2nd and 4th, I don't really know the whole posting pics thing and we took it all out of the car since it's going to the blaster soon.

I've got 3.09 four speed in my 3.23 geared challenger, and I really like it that way. No need to play with the clutch a lot, and the next gear isn't far away. Works perfect for me.

makes for nice cruising in third too doesnt it....its a matter of finding those gearsets though...they arent reproduced anymore and they are expensive

My other car had buckets, I can't find the pics of the set up, all I can remember was the reverse lever hanging out. Someone on another board had posted some, but I guess they purge the data base more often.

I flipped over the Vertigate mount I have and low and behold it says "L O N G" on it. I have another piece of aluminum that has 6 holes in it that resemble the pad mounts on a 833. Looks like it mounts a lil higher, and forward.

3.09 gear sets bring money? *EG*

well im only going by what i heard...apparently they are mentioned in the direct connection "bible" in the drag racing section for their first gear (all drag racers know the more first the better in most cases, especially in a sick car drag application something like a 15 overall first ratio is most desirable) and passon sells them used for 700 bucks! to be honest though im not exactly sure what the rest of the ratios are (I know 4th is still 1:1)

Hmmm perhaps they'll trade a ally case, tail and side cover for my 3.09 sets.

I have two A833 with 3.09 first gears, and the other gears are about the same as the standard A833. One used to be a 66 ball 'n trunion style, and the other came from a 67 barracuda. Both cars were slant six engined.

Thats what they came in, well that and the OD trans.

So I am thinking I'll move the whole assembly forward, and either make, or bend the reverse rod forward, so you have to lift up on it for reverse, instead of pulling back.

I was thinking of a new main stick too, for even shorter throws, and more clearance!
