Street Racing A Nova !

I think 2 people here should keep the B.S between them off the threads and into PM's or I'll have to get to doing unpopular things for all involved.
Please, don't PM with cry's of foul. Act like adults please.

Thank you.

My bet is on fuel, tune the carb, fatten the rear up.
On the Orange box, there OK and fine for the general purpose driving. I only had 1 issue with the O box ever. I like the Chrome box better though.

1)Replace fuel filter
2)Carter fuel pump (buy one \\ 13.50's is fast enough to need a hi performance fuel pump.
3)When replacing the fuel pump and filter ,pull fuel from the fuel line with a syphon pump and check for rust coming from the fuel tank.
4)rebuild and clean carb \\ check float levels.
GOOD LUCK:thumblef:

Thank you for the breakdown ! I ran it hard today and was fine. Im stumped.

This may be a long shot but I had a similar problem a couple years ago in my Duster. I was at the local drag strip making my very first pass in the car. I shifted manually around 5,000rpm, right when I shifted into second the engine completely bogged down. I thought it was going to die before the finish line but didn't. Rpms were dropping and sputtering. I released the gas and everything was fine. I just coasted the rest of the way. After I talked with many people my guess was fuel starvation. Have you ever replaced the fuel tank or sending unit in your car? I still had my original parts in my Duster. We raplaced both the tank and sending unit. Fuel line was already new. I have never had that problem happen since. The sock on the sending unit gets clogged up. Mine was pretty tore up.

Just a thought, nice Dart by the way.

Thanks !
Tank, sending unit and small lines all original. It ran fine tonight. ( i live in the country, just me testing)

Thanks for staying on topic ! cool advice. Chrome box, check plugs, tune carb,(my floats are off) and change filter. then I will move to new tank and bigger lines. It ran so fast at the track, its just a new random thing.( at the worst time against a nova)

Just a suggestion - its a pretty radical one but it MAY be a good short term fix...

If you blow compressed air through your carb line back toward the fuel tank,

AND

if the problem is the fuel sock - it will blow the sock off the end of the sender if its blocked,

I only suggest this if you are changing your tank in the near future anyway.

Told you it was radical!! LOL!

Mal makes sense. I had to do just that last year about this time. (Nov. actually) When my Holley started acting up.

I had the exact same problem with my Demon with warmed up 360. Did just about everything recommended here: fuel pickup, filter, put in 3/8 lines, float level, and it didn't fix it. Finally upgraded the fuel pump to a Carter and it fixed it. The cheap, standard pump cannot keep up.

So I checked out fuel pumps - Carter M6370 o.k. ? As far as sending unit it and sock it was replaced in Nov of 06. The fuel pump im using now is under a year old. Only thing stock is small fuel lines and old tank. The engine builder (major race guru Steve Wann )said he had the car set lean ,but running 13.50s all day its deff a strange anomaly . Bad Gas ? I always run hi 92 gas.

Thanks guys fir the input . I dont want to lose the that heavy nova again when we meet up at the Sacramento raceway in a few weeks.

i still think its the ignition. chrome box on the firewall?

1. make sure its on tight and the ground is good. use a ground strap from the box to the back of the cylinder head.
2. check inside the distributor cap and make sure everything looks ok. seems redundant but check anyways. air gap set to .008 w/ non-magnetic feeler gauge.
3. recheck your timing. intial and total.
4. last resort if problem comes back. try another ignition box.

hope this helps.
