A good answer to "Will you take less than you're asking?" is "Well, gosh, I donno
will you pay more than I'm asking?".
If you've got a truck advertised for $14,500 and somebody comes and offers $10,000, and they don't jump on your counteroffer of $11,000, a good response is "OK, how 'bout $19,000?".
If somebody says "Your car's priced too high, I found two of the same car for $XXXX", a good answer is "OK
buy one of them!".
