Hey Guys,
Thought I'd let you know that one, I'm still alive. Even with the docs best efforts, I think I'm related to the Energizer Bunny. Ya in that way too!! LOL. The cancer is gone for now and I hope to get another year of cancer free so that I can fulfill one of my bucket list items. Now don't hate me but I'm going racing again but not with a Mopar. I am returning to my first love (first car was a 1959 Studebaker Silver Hawk) and returning to Bonneville next August. I wanted to re-live the glory days of Bonneville when we went to watch Andy Granatelli race a 1963 Avanti. He set 29 records in one week and the speed record stood until 2002 when a Viper (Ya Mopar) finally broke it. I'll share details later but the plan looks to be shaping up for me to drive a 1963 Avanti powered by a 304 Factory Supercharged Studebaker engine. If this happens it will fulfill a life long dream of mine. Kind of sad it took facing death to get me off the dime on this but later is better than never in my book. So look for more, with pictures, in the coming weeks, that is if you Mopar guys don't mind watching a Mopar guy driving an antique automobile.

That Hawk is one cool car, NO DOUBT! Glad to hear your feeling better and out and about kickin ***. Stick around and post up some pictures as things progress along would ya!?!?!

Thanks and I will post pictures as soon as they are available. That picture sure takes me back. Until cancer took me out of the picture (2005) I was a High School Auto Shop teacher. Only taught by hands on. No lectures from me. Get in, get your hands dirty and learn. Had the most fun teaching the girls. They were so curious and so hungry to learn. I'll see if I still have the video of the pistons wars we had. Two teams of girls seeing who could get the pistons out of the short block in the shortest amount of time. Cool stuff. I look forward to sharing my "Bucket List Dream" Bonneville project with all of you.

Dan

Bucket lists are a *****. We lost mom in Feb, and didn't get very far with hers.

Glad to hear that your making the most of your time. I have a buddy that has a two owner (he's second) 1963 Avanti sitting in his garage collecting dust. Supercharged four speed car. Would be a really neat and different car to cruise around in. Needs some brake work and I can't get him off his *** to do any of it!!! I hope it doesn't take a medical scare to get him living life!

Good luck to you and keep us posted!!

those hawks were cool cars I painted one back in73 and the owner let me drive it to his home wen dune. and as far as your Cancer my wife had it 6yrs.ago and has been free of it since then.good luck with your ride and go brake another record.

I had an old neighbor down the street had one just sitting in his yard. I always admired that car. My wife has been cancer free 5 years now.
HAVE FUN!!!!!!

Good To see ya moving forward Dan :happy10:
And Good luck and prayers for ya bud, There is a thread here that some one
ask if we could not have a MoPar what would it be and the 1958 Studebaker Silver Hawk was my choice  Or was it the year you was born what car would I pick :read2: Go for it and keep us updated

Good to hear your not letting everything get you down.
My mother was just diagnosed not too long ago and we have been raisin money and helping others with the same problems. Its a tough to watch someone go through it and cant imagine being the one going through it but its nice seeing your getting back and doing what you love.
Something like this can truley turn a 5 year project into a 5 month project.
best wishes

Dan all I can say is get out there with that Hawk and kick some ***.

Good luck, and have tons of fun.

Best of luck dan with the hawk!

An better yet, glad to hear your feeling better
:)

Dan, there's no way you're gonna get kicked off this forum ... you're too adorable and a great story teller to boot. Your zeal for life is not only inspriring to all of us but it's contagious too!

I wish I'd had you for my auto shop teacher ... as the only girl in the class, I can say now that I'm glad I had my dad to show me the ropes ahead of time. Never one to be ignored (just ask these guys lol), I found out early on that most men don't want engine building advice from a chick and us girls have to be pretty much twice as good to earn half the recognition. That lesson is paying off now, but it would have been a real head start on the right road being in your class back then.

Welcome to you and your Stude, and here's wishing you the absolute best of luck chasing your dream and kicking a$$ at Bonneville next season. We'll all be pullin for ya! Keep us posted on your progress. (Oh yeah ... If you could use another decal or two on that sweet old ride just give me a call -- I don't have any salt flats customers yet but you would be a fine addition!)

It's good to see your back up and around and getting on with living your dream.I envy you with what you are going to be doing.8)

Good for you. Maybe I'll see you there in that I'm getting into LSR. Maybe we can sneak a 273 into that stude!!!i

That is the coolest thing I've heard or read all year! I wish you the best of luck!!

Many years ago I took care of a VW shop owners Studes. He had a 53 supercharged Golden Hawk and a 64 Lark. I swapped in an automatic into the Golden Hawk replacing a 3 speed manual. Car was really cool.

I wish you all the best, please keep us updated!!

THE only reason I would be 'marginally' offended is if You
did not post many many Vid links :-D:-D

p.s. YOU WILL POST VIDS ??? :toothy10:
IF YOU DON'T ,YOU ARE SOOOO OFF THE CHRISTMAS LIST.....

If anyone here told you to leave that person would prove that they have no heart at all. I'm looking forward to hearing/seeing more from you as time goes on.

way to go Dan, have fun, my wife is a 33 year survivor and still cancer Free

Either I'm reading this wrong or some of you are. He's returning to race in a pretty rare Avanti not the Hawk.
