I'm faced with a delema I bought a 318 for my Scamp and it turns out is was Junk so if I'm going into it I might as well do a stroker who makes the most affordable kit for this?

dont know the cheapest, but the 4.00" crank will make a 318 a 390" they can be had for around $290 cast on e-bay. I would just find a 360 block and look at hughes site for the 426" kit then you would be the big dog, or at least the 4.00" kit to 408"

The pistons end up costing a little more than the 340/360 pistons do with the 4" stroke. Otherwise the costs are the same. You're looking around $1500 for a kit with forged pistons. I dont know if the hypereutectics are made for that stroke as I dont use them for the 4" applications.

LOL, Nothing like spending his (Cyber) money on the biggest kit (cyber) money can afford! ROFLMAO!

OK, it took forever to get to Mancini racing dot com, damn computer, but this page here; http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/inba1.html
has 318 stroker kits.

cheapest or least expensive would be cast crank...stock rods and kb pistons...

if you have the money upgrade rod to scat I beams...

also you will want to find a set of 360 J heads at least for the larger ports..

I kinda like the hughes 426 stoker myself...I'd like to build one next time with indy heads, instead of the current 408/eddys i have now...i'll have my brother put the shortblock together next time, instead of hughes putting it together...maybe ill get better oil pressure...:

Ha! Use some of that Cyber Money and drop a Blown Hemi in it!

sorry if my answer does not answer his question...but I would not spend money stroking a 318 to a 349.....

by the time you cut or buy a crank....you can get the 4" crank....you got buy pistons too...

if no one expresses their opinions on here what good is it to have a forum....

I agree thats why i gave my two cents!! i don't care what he does with his money, but sounds like he paid for a 318 that was junk already, so where is he at now. besides prices change quickly on stroker kits, he can try to price match one kit to another from one seller to another those prices are not set in stone.

I have a MP Crank shaft 3.58 Stroke Small Mains for 318 or 340, Eagle I Beam 5140 Forged Rods with ARP Bolts and Studs 6.123 Length, Clevite Pistons and Clevite Bearings for a 349 build that I will sell.

All parts are BRAND NEW, NEVER USED!!

PM me for the price...........Just needs to be balanced.

70aarcuda;

I actually poked Edelman with that reply. Not you.

Then again, that's you with your money and what you want to do with it isn't it?

I also agree that a 4 incher would be better, and so I have left a link with 4 inch arms behind. I have no idea where I would find a 3.58 stroker package, but, if you do, leave a link.
After all, that is what he wants to do with his money, isn't it. What you do with your money is your biz and it's OK with me no matter how good or ill I think it is. After all, that would be your money, not his, not mine, but yours. You earned it and you'll spend it on whatever and how you see fit reguardless of who sez what. Right!?

Now, lastly, if you wanna do something, out of the norm on your car and you come here looking for help on it but only get flak, what good is the forum then?

You didn't get help.
Your still left wondering.
You'll go else where to get help. Which leeds to a smaller forum. Smaller forums do not offer as much help. If theres not much help to be had here, why come?
Your opinion is fine, but not answering the question, even if it is no help at all only degrades the forum. Some help better than no help, no help is better than a badgering or a "WTF would you do that for?" Answer.

I wish I could point this guy to a place, but I can't. Can anyone here point this guy to a 3.58 stroker 318 kit?

In addition to the Stroker assembly

I also have a COMP CAMS XE284H Brand New
Hydraulic Race Lifters from Hughes Brand New
Push Rods Brand New
Stock Rocker Shafts, Rockers and hardware Brand New
Melling Oil Pump Brand New
Stock Oil Pan and pick up Brand New
Head Studs and everything else needed for that build.......

I also have other pistons that can be used on a 340 block with this assembly to make a 367ci Animal!

You can cut down a stock cast 360 crank to the 318/340 main size and just buy pistons if that's what you want. I have 2 318 blocks you can have if you can pick them up.

My old 349 build -

Cast 360 crank cut down in the journals.
360 shot peened rods

The guy that built mine used hi comp TRW forged slugs cut down 100th. Comp was good, P-V clearance was pretty bad. :(

Doing it again on the cheap, Id use the silvolite 1278CP and fly cut them.

I ran 10.4:1 comp,
234@ .50 / .495 lift cam
Unported 1.88 valve 360 596 cast heads.
3.9 gears

Ran a best of 13.1 at 104 mph (3600 lb car) on street steel ply radials.

The problem with the 349 build has ALWAYS been finding a slug that gives the P-V clearance you need.

I am now getting a 318/390 done - its costing $300 more than the cheap 349 would cost me, and I get more cubes, I can run a bigger cam and forged KB slugs.

Custom slugs can be made for you. That is an expensive option. The aftermarket has come around for the 318 and the 4 inch arm, but I have not seen any made for the 3.58 stroke yet.

hey mad ,what piston rod combo do you have to run with your crank ? :read2:

I will post the Part Number later today.

The pistons are cheap but they need to be MACHINED for Valve Reliefs....AND they need to be done right!!!! Not like the BUTCHER BJR!!!

The pistons are around 100.00 and the machining is around $180.00 depending on where you have it done at. These are CAST pistons from a 318 Truck engine. The Comp Height is 1.675 which puts the piston at 0 deck after cutting about .012 off the block and deck Height at 9.588 WITHOUT milling the top of the piston!! If the block needs more than that to square it you can adjust the Head Gasket thickness for your desired compression. I need to pull the box off my parts shelf I forgot the brand, I think they are Silovite but I will verify that!

From what Brian was telling me at IMM Engines you could just offset bore the 318 block and use an OFF the shelf piston for a 360 where you have many choices.

I alread posted the # for the Silvolite MD (see above)

There used to be a Sterling (LC371P) as well with the same Comp height, but its been deleted.

As you said - the 1278CP is considered a low comp truck/marine piston.

There is a Badger available as well, cast and p# 287.

Already posted MD -

Listen I answered the question HONESTLY....... If you got a problem with that then:finga:

errrrr........MD - I meant the part # for the SIlvolite was already posted - thats why I put the quote from my own post up there.

wasn't having a dig at the rest of you post, OK?
