So have I, so I decided that I want to collect 1,000,000 pennies. I wonder how much that will weigh? If anyone wants to send me a penny, let me know.

Just so you know, once the pennies are collected. 90% will go to a church or charity or something to help people. I am sure I have a ways to go before I decide just where it will all go.

Have a great Christmas!

If you get $14 (1400) in pennies a day you will have a million in around 2 yrs if my math is right.

Here is what one million pennies look's like
so it would take 100 of these to have a million dolors
Cool, I never new it took that much room to hold 10.000 in pennies

I googled the following information...

A penny weighs 2.5 grams or 0.88 ounces. (The actual amount of ounces is 0.08818490495171681, but it is rounded to 0.88) I could not find an online scale, but below is my source. The first one is where I found the weight of a penny, and the second link is where I converted it to grams.
To find how much 27 pennies weigh, just multiply 2.5 grams (2.5 is an easier number than 0.88184...) by 27, then convert the product that you got (use the second link below) into ounces.
I hope this helps.
Good luck on the science fair project!

Googling the weight of 1,000,000 pennies show them to weigh just over 3 tons. That would also change if they were real copper pennies or the new pennies we have now.

1,000,000 pennies? Never happen.Take too long and where would you put 3 tons of pennies anyhow?

I just thought it would be fun. I am not really asking for donations. I think it will be cool to pick them up off the ground and just store them in five gallon buckets. The time frame doesn't matter either. It's just a new goal I have. How cool would it be to donate $10k to a food bank or something. Or give a few needy familys money to help the get their lives back together. That is my real goal. To see the joy in someones eyes when they are given something they need, but can't afford.

Dreno, why will it never happen? Anything is possible if you work for it.

I will admit I may have been a little ahead of myself when i said that but you have to admit it would be a huge task.If you can accomplish that,I will be the first to congratulate you.Good luck.8)

In retrospect, you see my avatar? That is the inner gears of a working wooden clock my Dad built by hand when he was 83. I take back what I said J-macs.

I always wondered why you changed you avatar :read2:
That is so cool

I have had mine forever and changed it for a few days but I could not get my spy video to work in it, and they wanted me to pay more to change it to work 8) I can see everyone with my avatar :happy10: it don't talk much and it don't send a message 8) Know you know why it's there :glasses9: hehehe!!!

i saw something on tv a while back and elderly man had trash cans, [like 55 gallon drum trash cans ] full of pennies..in his basement..I don't remember how many but it was allot of them. Anybody else remember seeing that..

I once helped a guy move and he had a big 5 gallon glass jar full of pennies he said if I can pick it up I can have it for helping him move.so I took it, it weighed about 100 lbs and the coin counter gave me $100+ ! so pennies are about .99c a pound the same as cheap ground chuck

Back in the summer a young girl from my church returned from a mission trip with the goal of raising $14,000 for a small school she had worked with during the previous two weeks. The Pastor let her come up, tell her story and her goal. 45 minutes later the congregation had donated $36,000.

You can tell yourself you can or you can tell yourself you can't. Either way, you're right.
